Custom Glock Barrel in 4.6x30?

Recommended Posts

I've been talking with another member about different caliber options and we started talking about 4.6x30 - the HK MP7 round.

Fiocchi and a few others actually make new production 4.6 ammo, I guess for SOTs and LEO/SMU organizations that use the MP7 platform - pretty affordable too for what it's worth $21/50..

Now - how difficult/implausible would it be to have a Glock barrel blank turned into one for 4.6?

As far as magazines would it be plausible to have one 3D printer or modify a Glock 17/19 mag to accept the 4.6 round?

And also - anyone heard of dies or even components for the 4.6? It's gotta be available somewhere - especially since brass can be available

Is the cartridge short enough to fit in a 9mm or even a .45/10mm length magazine? I know neither 5.7 or 7.62x25 is.

Edit: 4.6x30mmHK has an OAL of 1.516 according to Wikipedia. 10mm has an OAL of 1.260. I don't think it will physically fit in the magazine. Edited by nightrunner

Yeah you're right - the 4.6x30 is 6.5mm longer than a 10mm according to SAAMI specs

I would like to see what is basically a 7.62x25 that is just short enough to work in a 10mm length magazine. Essentially a 10mm necked down to .30cal

The 10mm necked down to .356 (9X25 Dillon) already pushes 95gr bullets up to right at 2000FPS... I don't know how fast a ~70gr .30 cal could go.  I'd like to find out though.

This is where the the 22TCM9R comes into play. RIA is making glock replacement uppers. 1900fps from 5" barrel.

As a 22TCM connoisseur of sorts I have played with the standard round quite a bit. Even Frankensteined a single stack 1911compact before they came out with the commander length model.

Reloading can be tedious, as there isn't much margin for error in such a small bottle neck case. But it's an impressive round to say the least.

Have you (or has anyone) done much testing with this round out of longer barrels?  Would something like a 7-8" barrel add much velocity, or does 4-5" burn all the powder you can cram in there already?

I haven't even shot one but they make a bolt action sporter type rifle. Velocity is supposed to be 2100fps from the 1911 and 2800fps from the rifle. Both with a 40gr JHP.

A gentleman on Arf.com built an 22TCM AR using Tok mags, he got 3k fps.

A 22TCM would be legit, but me and case prep do not get along. Main reason I do not mess around with reloading rifle anymore, until I can get un-lazy

Guess the 4.6x30 was just a passing hope, I just need to get back into 10mm and maybe 9x25 Destroyer

Look into .224BOZ. I know it died quickly, not sure why, but it was a 10mm necked down to take a .224 bullet.
