I finally called to check the status of my permit application yesterday since it has been well over a month since I was fingerprinted. The lady on the phone told me that they sent me a letter back in November (which I never received) telling me that they lost my application and they need me to fax them my copy of the application I filled out at the DMV.

Needless to say, the permit cant be issued until they receive my copy of the application.

I guess the bright side is that they did have everything else in order and the background check was complete, so hopefully they will issue me my permit by the end of the week (fingers crossed)

Anybody else have a similar experience?

The rule of thumb seems to be to check early and check often.

I just got off the phone with the office and they told me it will be issued this week and should have it with 7 to 14 days. I did all my paperwork and fingerprinting 15 days ago. It seems that they are getting much better and faster at this.

Best I remember around the time frame you are talking is when they were electronically scanning applications into the system, they throwing the paper ones away. But turned out they had a problem with the software and many applications were lost and with no paper backup.

I believe they are now keeping the paper copy while working on the software problem.

Judging by the speed that many of the permits applies for in the last few weeks are being issued, it would seem they have worked out several problems.
