New 300 Blackout SBR

Finally got my tax stamp a couple weeks back and Brown Santa brought my upper last night! Bought a Yankee Hill Phantom earlier in the week that should go quite well with this little beauty. Now for that wait... The SBR stamp took a hair over 3 months. I imagine with the new NFA ruling on trusts, this stamp for the suppressor may take a bit longer :wall:  Only other plans I really have for it are a CMC trigger and a slightly longer hand guard.

It is the Radical upper. 8.5 inch model. I definitely want to change out the hand guard but overall I'm very happy with it! Especially for the price. And timing wasn't too bad. I ordered it 2/13 and they said it would take up to 8 weeks but it was delivered yesterday.

Did forget to mention one thing. I had Mike at Law Enforcement Sales engrave my trust on the lower. He did an awesome job. I can't recommend him highly enough! And I have my suppressor going through him for transfer as well. And a Glock 43 hopefully next week...

Mike really is a great guy, both on here as well as in person. He does a lot for his fellow shooters and is always involved with charities.

 

I am glad to see more and more people going to this amazing caliber. It is getting popular enough that ammunition can be found in a lot of places but it is still not so popular that it is perpetually sold out. It is the most versatile caliber, especially in a semi auto. It will kill anything you might come in contact in this area of the country.

 

I have four different platforms in 300 Blackout, AR and a Savage and an Encore rifle and Contender pistol. I am getting ready to build a long range rig in 300 Blackout as well. I am going to probably use either a 10, 11 or 12 twist because it will be a supersonic only. But even a 10 twist will stabilize all the cast bullets I shoot at subsonic velocities. I will thread, chamber and profile the barrel myself. Probably will not thread the end because of the bore belling at the muzzle

 

We have a small group of people who are starting to explore the cartridge's real capabilities. It is not only good at shooting slow bullets quietly but it might also be a decent long range caliber as well. Most people do not know that the bullet is still gaining velocity with a 30" barrel when shooting supersonic loads. It is just a matter of figuring out which recipe shoots accurately across several platforms. Some of us are going to try to figure out our version of FGMM. It is an amazing little caliber, it develops the same energy as a 5.56 using 1/3 less powder.

 

We are going to be using 168, 175 and 180 grain bullets. We are trying to see which one will be supersonic the farthest. It is generally accepted that supersonic 300 Blackout is like a 308 Winchester minus 275 yards. That is if a 308 Winchester is a 400 yard deer cartridge then the 300 Blackout is a 125 yard deer cartridge. And for long range shooting if the 308 Winchester is considered a 1,000 yard cartridge the 300 Blackout is a 725 yard cartridge. The muzzle velocity of the 300 Blackout is the same at the 308 Winchester at 275 yards.

I had a 300 AR first. Then came the can - which quickly led to the 300 bolt gun. It's amazing how quiet this round is out of a suppressed bolt gun.

It works out great that Mike is only about 5 minutes from where I work too!

 

A 300 bolt gun is definitely on the list of guns to get. I've got 700 rounds of 147 grain 300 from Freedom Munitions right now. I'm anxious to try out some different brands/bullet weights as I go along in this 300 blackout journey.

That is a very nice weapon for sure. I have just started getting into the 300 blackout myself and seeing this makes me want to sbr my 10.5in ar pistol. Very nice!
