Browning 92 - .44mag lever action

I recently acquired this beautiful browning 92 in .44 mag. Does anyone else on here own one of these? I understand these were also made in 357. I'm just trying to get as much info as possible, and would like to know what loads others have shot through it with success. I've done a little Internet research but haven't yielded much info, plus it seems they made a few different models of these in the 70s and 80s. Thanks!

I don't own one but did a bit of research on them awhile back. From what I found out, they were 1892 clone but with a higher quality fit and finish than a Winchester. And for at least part of the time they were made, Winchester wasn't making a 1892, so they were what you got if you wanted a new 1892. I think for a few years they made a .45Colt version as well as the .44 and .357 models.

I have one in .44 magnum.

Love it... Skinner peep sight on it.

 

Mine does not have a sling or mounts for one.

I have only shot magtech semi jacketed soft points out of it.

Kicks a bit because it is so light.

They are very poor shooters, some are even unsafe. You should send it to me for proper testing

just to be sure yours in one of the very few that are safe. For sure send LOTS of ammo for the testing.

It should not take more than a few 1000 rounds and a few months, You pay shipping both ways, my time will be free.

We've got one in 44 mag... They are a great little lever gun... They are great shooters... They did, in fact, make em in 357 mag... Ive seen very few of them for sale over the years...

Ran across this on another forum:

 

"You need to remember that you have a 1 in 38 twist. I have to run 250 grain bullets full power to get stabilization and fair accuracy. Trying to stabilize a 280 grainer at 100 yards was futile. That is why I designed the 225 grain. That is the longest bullet that I can load down to target velocity levels and still stabilize fine."

 

"I suggest you slug your bore, many of the B-92's had .432 bores and they had very long leads to the rifling. Jacketed bullets seemed to work "OK" but not great."

This is the second one I have ever seen. It is an extremely rare gun or at least they are rarely sold.
