PSA about PSA uppers!

Got one of their cheap Daily Deals Freedom stainless midlength uppers for my kids to shoot. Originally put Magpul MOE handguard on it. Later I decided to use an extra UTG Pro Slim free float handguard I had laying around. To my surprise, when I went to torque the barrel nut off, I got aggravated trying to get the barrel nut wrench to engage. Found out the barrel nut was not even hand tight and was spinning freely.

I know it can happen top any builder (except RRA rockset nuts), but you may want to check your uppers. That could have been bad.[emoji15]

I just installed a BCM KMR handguard on one of the SAME uppers. Barrel nut was tight on that one. FWIW, I lapped the upper receiver and bedded the barrel when I put it back together. The gun shoots sub MOA now. 60 yards, 1/4" group with two through the same hole. That was with the extra crappy stock trigger too.

I would notify PSA.

I bought a double star upper a few years ago from the guys who sell them at the gun show. It had a free float tube and I noticed it was loose when I got home. Curiosity peaked and screwed it off. Noticed the nut was touching the gas tube. Gave it a wiggle and it moved. Not even remotely tight.

Remember the old Russian proverb Reagan used to say? Trust but verify. Edited by Caster
