I have had my Taurus 1911 since March 2008 and it has performed flawlessly.

Got it at the Nashville Gun Show for 500.00

I have shot over 500 rounds of Winchester, and tried out Monarch, Blazer and Magtech. No problems whatsoever.

I replaced the factory grips with alumagrips and installed a speed well that they make.

Last thing was the hammer which I had replaced with a Wilson Combat Hammer.

great shooting gun at a great price.

I've been quite happy with my PT1911. I think it compares quite favorably to the Sig GSR and to the GCNM's I've owned.

We sell A LOT of the Tauruses, basically since they came out the only people who want a basic GI/mil-spec Springfield are guys who want the historic look . . . I've put maybe one mag through a Taurus 1911, not really long enough to form a truly solid opinion about it, but if I didn't already own my Kimber and wanted a 5" gun, I'd jump all over it. It's got a lot of features as standard that would run close to $800 OTD on a lot of other 1911's I could name, Kimber included.

seems for the price the taurus has the most to offer... the other choices are good guns, but will require upgrades (different/larger sights, etc.)...

I've never understood the "required upgrade" deal. I don't have a problem with the regular sights, though. I see "requirements" as things that are necessary to make it function properly if it has a problem in that area. If it goes bang every time, and hits POA, I don't think it "requires" anything. All are excellent just some better than others

"require" might be the wrong word... just seems like the other available options in the 600 or below range are modeled after the mil-spec type 1911, which has itty bitty sights... i'd have to change them.

hmmm... the taurus $75 rebate is until 12/31/08, and even an aluminum frame model for south of 600 seems like almost too good of a deal to pass up, looks like i'll have to decide sooner rather than later... anyone with with info based on experience with the taurus is helpful...

specialagent, how many rounds through yours approx. ? what ammo have you been shooting? any set-up/maintinece needed or issues (ftf on full loaded mags, sights out of zero, sticky mag release, etc... the usual suspects)?

These were the 1st 5 rounds out of the box (4 holes)

Have put about 300 through it so far, no problems. Rear sight adjusted a nudge.
