Try looking for bullets made for .303 British. They're .311 and can be had much heavier. I got a bunch of .311 180g soft points I load in my Brit, I'd LOVE to see that in a '39!!!

Heh :P

Might need a morter plate to lob them downrange.

I'll probably do that eventually. One problem, and this extends to .308 bullets, is they they have an expansion minimum of somewhere around 2200. .303 also uses a .312 bullet, not that i expect that to be much of an issue. I understand a 240 grain cast slug makes a dandy subsonic round.

I use to have a Colt that was chambered in 7.62x39. It did not feed reliably because of the magazines. I tried different magazines and none of them would feed reliably. This was about fifteen yrs ago so they may have come up with new magazines that feed. Just my .02 cents

I still have an 80's Colt and the problem remains the same. 100% reliable with any 556 AR mag loaded to 8 rounds max, unreliable with any of the aftermarket mags. I stay up nights praying that someone will build such a mag (well, not really but it would be nice with ammo prices the way they are).

I was thinking about this today, while reloading. Why can't you pull some bullets from 7,62x54R? That silver tip Czech stuff would be the cat's meow in a '39!

Uh huh.

I smell a x39 ar upper in your future. The round has a lot of sex appeal for a tinkerer. and the upper is more accurate than a russkie rifle...

I ordered some x54 bullets from pats reloading, in 174gr I think it was. Didn't get there quick enough. Midway had em for awhile. I'll keep my eye out, but my focus is hunting ammo right now. I'll get to the plinking this summer...don't get so impatient!

Get a few of these, run like a champ in mine:

They have a design out on a 30 round banana mag. Its all vapor as far as i can tell. Some guy made some mags with an armalite upper part and an AK lower part. They work great, look like hell. They call them frankenmags. If you ever see one, buy it. Its the only mag that works currently, imo. I understand the guy wound up in the clink though.
