IDPA Chattanooga/Cleveland?

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting out get back into competitive shooting again. I'm new to southeast TN and looking for IDPA & USPSA matches.

It looks like Cleveland has a club but no events running. Do they start up later in the year?

Any other places to shoot these matches south of Oakridge, and east of Gallatin?

Manchester (MTSC) is the closest I know of in your direction...They have fun and challenging matches and there is one this weekend. Maybe Jcoop will chime in, or send him a PM if its even remotely close for you.

I'm near Dayton that makes it almost a 2 hour drive. Not out of the question but I'd still like something closer. If Cleveland isn't running matches then ORSA will be closest at 1 hour ish.

As I get back up to speed I will try an come see you mid TN guys too as I travel for business that way sometimes.

Cleveland was running all year long last time I followed it which has been a while.   Someone should know its current status...

You are welcome anytime. We host Gallatin (Sumner Gun & Supply) and West Nashville (Royal Range) Matches. We also make the trip to ORSA on occasion, and I'll be more regular up there since I've taken up USPSA now as well.

If I

3gun is the 2nd Saturday, SASS is 1st Saturday (I think) and IDPA is 3rd.  Pretty much everyone who runs a match these days uses Social Media and range websites don't get used much.  https://www.facebook.com/ClevelandTnIdpa

have to... I hate Facebook and all the other social medial sites the amount of spam they generate is a pain!

But If I have to...

The Cleveland club website site has changed very recently and they do not have listings for the IDPA matches or even much info , just how to contact the club. In fact the Cleveland club site ( CHRPC.com) has not listed the scores for like 2 years, they have just been listed on the facebook page.

It is kind of screwy the way they do it....you have to go to the facebook page for general info and then the scores are posted on Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/results/16509) and you can sign up in advance for the month's match on Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/cleveland-tn-idpa-feb-2016/register) and both are linked to off of the facebook page. But there is very little info on the club's actual website.... You'd think the club itself who has a vested interest ($$$) in getting people to show up would offer more info on their site.....

It sure looked to me like they weren't shooting IDPA any more. Maybe they should just put a link to the Facebook page on the club website...

Now that I know about the 3rd Saturday. I'll make it to a match probably in April.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about this, but I think there is some FUDD vs action pistol (and, heaven forbid, black rifles) tension within the club. As an outsider, I don't know the dynamic for certain.

Yep.   Ill say it, and Im a member... there is some attitude from a few towards 3 gun specifically and idpa is kinda tolerated.

They had 117 shooters last Saturday

I might get ragged for saying this, but - SO glad I'm not in Chattanooga with that being the only place to go shoot matches anymore - good club, but my GOODNESS too many people.

I always kinda had the feeling that I (and the other "new" folks) weren't exactly welcomed guest - but now going to matches with FAR less people, I don't blame them! Shooting 12-15+ people squads is rough.

Chattanooga needs another club hosting matches.

Sooooo. What are the alternatives?

Is there even a facility that could host multi stage matches?

Is there room in the calendar to do it and not compete with other established clubs?

I'm new to the area and just don't know

Well last year or the year before there was a mysterious 22 caliber hole in one of the clay towers and they  "kicked" 3gun off the 100 yard bay. I don't remember how that played out but there was quite a bit of fussing about it.

Sometimes a "club" enjoys the money from the matches but don't really want to be "put out" by the matches.

As for the web site itself, ORSA is kinda the same way. There are links to the AP club but it's not easy to find.

I've always felt welcome down there. I dare say I feel more welcome there than ORSA. Lots of people is a good thing. It means it's growing.....and you don't have to run down and paste every time :D. I make the matches there mostly in the Spring and Summer so I don't have 2 sets of rules floating around in my head.

Well there is talk about a 100 acre ranch about 8 mins from my house starting a range. The guy shoots 3 gun mostly so there will probably be a new 3 gun match halfway between Knoxville and Chattanogga if they get that going. Not sure if they will have IDPA/USPSA matches or not.

12 years ago I was an IDPA safety officer, and a USPSA RO. I want to get those certifications back hopefully this summer so I could help out.
