Spyderco Civilian with plain edge?

Guys, my mother's boyfriend has been on the hunt for one of these for a while and I can't seem to find one.

After doing some research I discovered that they stopped production on the plain edge version but I can't figure out why. Also, what is a reasonable price for a used one? It seems like these are sort of rare and I don't know much about these knives.

I love the civilian, but I've never seen one with a non-serrated blade. The point ground extremely sharp and very thin and are pretty easy to break.

They've only made the Civilian in a plain edge in very limited runs.  When they do become available on the secondary market, they usually demand a premium.

 

While I am generally a big fan of plain edge blades over their serrated counterparts, this is one case where serrations - and specifically Spyderco's serrations make a lot of sense.  For this knife's use case - self defense - the increase in cutting surface area provided by the serrations would be desirable.

Like MacGyver said they are rare and it appears that the ones that are out there are not leaving the owners hands.  When Blade HQ had them they were $350.00.  I would say they are going for almost double that now if you can find someone willing to sell one.

I appreciate the info! He told me today he has 6 of the regular serrated ones.. Maybe he'll give me one! Haha

Apparently this knife is supposed to have zero utility use and is only meant for self-defense situations. It's an awesome looking knife!
