More unemployed!  But that's OK because Carrier will offer scholar programs.  They can go to college and learn another trade.

Don't know why they're moving to Mexico... all the Mexicans are coming here.

I seen that, I think it's due to EPA regs and other government interference. Current administration is killing many industries that it considers to be harming the environment such as coal and a/c companies.

And the reason we will continue to have immigrants is because there are still many jobs out there, as long as you are willing to get your hands dirty.

Stop fooling yourself. Mexican labor is simply cheaper.

....and regulations are far less onerous. It's a multi faceted problem, and cheap labor definitely Is a part of it; but not all of it.

Union labor is the lion's share of the problem. I don't feel for these folks at all. Sorry.

I can't speak of all sectors, but many of the farmhands (all legal) were paid the same wage as other farmhands.  Same with many of the roofers, framers and many other construction workers I have spoken with.

Stupid us, we'll still allow Carrier products to come across the border for no extra charge. Because free trade has done so much for the American worker.  :shake:

No, stupid us for allowing a federal government to interfere in things that are none of its dam business.
There is nothing wrong with free trade.
We're it not for years of liberal tree hugging hippie politics, 'Made in America' would still be competitive with the rest of the world.

Regulating interstate commerce is the federal governments business.  There's even a clause about it in the Constitution that says so.

Heck yeah, and they've done such a wonderful job of it too. Such a good job that we are not economically viable as a manufacturer any more. Third world labor will always be cheaper but even second world countries can beat us out now. Too many fat lazy inept people in this country who want $30+ hr with benefits and only willing to work 40hr for some filthy labor Union.

This country deserves to have this sort of thing happening to it. Our choices have made it so. We may not like it, but we absolutely deserve it.

Honestly I believe it has much more to do with the regulations from untold number of government agencies with MASSIVE fines.

The increased amount of transporting product helps balance out the price of cheap foreign labor. And the farther away it is, the more it balances out.

Ya'll don't understand the meaning of free trade........it means there's no penalty to move jobs out of this country and then bring your product back in FREE.  Free of any tariffs or taxes, and build them free of any work rules or safety or pollution regulations or any constraints really.......just pay off the gov'mnt officials you need to...... much cheaper to do business that way.  And you thought it meant free markets. yeah, right.

In the long run, Carrier units can become less expensive than American-made competitors.  We'll see then which one you buy!  :D

There are cheap Chinese A/C and heat pump units on the market but you don't see me buying one. ;)

My Goodman unit is 22 years old and still working.  I'll buy another one.  They're made in Houston but unfortunately, Goodman was bought out by Daikin (Japan)

So it's a catch 22... do you want a unit made in USA with the money going to Japan? or a unit made in Mexico with the money going to USA? :meh:

Been in that position when a company I worked for lost their HP contract.  leadership hid the facts, came out one day and said we have two weeks before shutting down, of course this was right before the holidays.  After they notified us in the group meeting, I walked over & clocked out.  People said I was crazy for throwing away the severance package, but I wanted a head start searching for a new job before the other more experienced and qualified people got their names out in the local area.  Plan worked.

Wish them all the best of luck, the smart ones should already have quit and are spending 18 hours a day looking for a new job.

You realize Goodman has a plant in Fayetteville, their closing (within 3yrs) and moving it to Houston and probably shortly after that to Mexico..one of their maintenance workers just jumped ship and started working for me..

Goodman is only assembled in America, most of the parts come from China or Mexico. Only a few metal parts and the cabinets are made in the states.
Goodman is also a gun-free zone.
