Vehicle Carry

Now I am new to the group, and I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death. That being said I am still interested in all the different ways that members carry in their vehicles. I looked high and low for a way to carry in my truck, and I couldn't find a holster or a DIY way to carry that I really liked. Then I found this CoJo gun magnet and so far I really like it. It says you can screw it to the dash (or where ever you want to mount it) but screws in dash plastic strip and fall out or become loose, so I riveted it to the dash. So let me know how you carry in a vehicle or opinions on gun magnets

They have the gun mags but Ive also seen OWB holsters being clipped to the doors.

I carry NY style with it in my lap or in a cup holder. Its fun scaring baristas with a scary assualt glockatron bullet buttoneer

My experience is that what works best differs wildly depending on the interior or your truck or car.

I currently have a 02 Sierra with the split bench seat in front. A full size tucked between the drivers and center seat is pretty secure. Not like a holster, but works. And it's mostly out of sight, tinted windows help. I have wanted to fab up a mount for a Kydex holster to mount to the lower dash, but never got around to it.

I originally wanted a steering column style holster. But I borrowed a friends and found that I keep hitting my wrist on the steering when I would try and draw my gun. And it felt awkward . This magnet just feels a lot more natural of a motion if I need my gun.

Interesting. I've heard of this, but never seen one. I've been known to us a method similar to nightrunner, but have a stiff leather holster for the gun of choice.

 

But in the end, what works for you is the best choice.

On bucket seats or with a split 60/40 bench seat I use a holster on the righthand side of the drivers seat. I've tied the holster off to the front of the lower seatbelt assy arm and I've velcroed it to the side of the seat. But overall I try to keep it out of sight of inquisitive eyes with a hat, or bandanna masking it. The magnet setup looks good but where's that gun going to go in a serious car crash?

I've been thinking about this for a while as well.  I like the convenience of the magnet, but want something more concealed.  The "behind the steering wheel" versions seem like they would be difficult to access.  I keep thinking about something attached to / under / inside the lower center console (SUV with floor shifter), but haven't had the time on a nice day to get out and see what might work.  How secure it is during a crash is also a serious consideration.

Yea I thought about the car crash scenario too. But my other option is a holster attached to the dash and I just couldn't find an option that I liked

I just keep mine on my hip in its  paddle holster. I make sure the seat belt is not hampering access and have never had an issue pulling it out of the holster. I can't bring myself to drill holes in my dash board like that. I do think its a nifty holder though and could find a use for it somewhere around the house.

Yea drilling holes in my dash gave me a pretty decent knot in my stomach but then I though I own it it's paid for and if I sell it someone gets a nifty gun holder

I have really nice set of New Zealand long sheepskin seat covers. I either keep the firearm under my right hip or under the seat cover on the passenger's seat. It's out of sight and I don't think most crooks would look under a seat cover in a quick smash and grab car theft.

If it’s not on me it’s in a holster in the console. I wouldn’t have any firearm with a round chambered out in the vehicle without something covering the trigger.

I like that magnet, but real estate in my Tacoma is limited so mine is either carried in its holster or if in a sketchy area tucked between the seat and center console.

I like the simplicity of that, and the coated magnet protecting the finish of the slide.  How much does it take to get it loose?  Could you get into a fender bender without it getting knocked out?

 Same here. But, whatever works for you, go for it. Thing with me is, wherever I go the gun goes, without removing it from somewhere,

or possibly getting in a hurry & forgetting the thing. Happens to us old folks ya know.
