I remember back in the 60's when I was a young whipper snapper that Dec. 7 was near a national holiday. Now it seems to be almost an afterthought. Thats kind of a shame.

While he was not there on Dec. 7 my father was stationed at Pearl Harbor during his time in the Navy during WW2.

It is a shame, but the average person in this country only acts like he/she cares if directly confronted with it. I see several wwII vets on a very regular basis. Some would be surprised just how much they still have to offer.

We live in a country that doesn't want to see anything that's not right in front of their face.

like always I flew my flag today in honor of those lost. It's a damn shame that the media as well as most of our country seems to have forgotten this day in history.

Its really sad when even the History Channel doesn't devote enormous amounts of time to something like that. They can do an entire day of Wehrmacht and Nostradamus but not Pearl.

True.

Even if another one hour 'documentary' comes right after [Myths of Pearl Harbor from 2006].

I always think of my mom's dad (my grandfather) who won't talk of WW2 even when pressed. He was on a carrier, radio operator. Always a man who believed in buying American. Though, these days . . . (I tread on de-railing the OP).

Dad was walking across the (I forget which) stateside Army base with a new civvy suit, about to be a civilian again, when the Pearl Harbor news hit.

Some time later he was in third wave at Omaha Beach, and then a long walk over lots of European landscape.

My mom's 3 brothers were in the Navy during WWII, but not involved in Pearl. December 7th was a National holiday in our house. I have never forgotten that day my whole life. I met the gal of my dreams, and when I proposed, she picked December 7 as our wedding day, oblivious of it's importance in my house. Now it means twice as much.....

God Bless America, God Bless the men and woman of our military!!
