No Gun Signs Coming Down at Legislative Plaza

It looks like we will now be able to legally carry at the legislative plaza.  You might want to thank your state senators and representatives for this change.

Maybe the governor will make the same change at the capitol building or at least provide secure storage so that guns aren't left in cars.

"So presumably, handgun carry permit owners will drop their pistols, along with their car keys and cell phones, in the Tupperware dishes outside the metal detectors on their way into the Plaza."

Handling of loaded guns in public...who thinks this part can possibly be a good idea?

You've always been allowed to carry on the Plaza since they passed state parks carry.  It was only restricted inside the building itself.

And the only person that was prohibiting carry before now was Beth Harwell, it doesn't require a law change just a letter allowing the signs to come down.

The Capital building itself can be changed by a letter from the Gov, and could be implemented in days.

My guess is they'll let us bypass the metal detectors, since there is no other reason if you have a valid permit to go through them.

I moved here from Michigan and could carry inside the capitol building. We could go see our representatives fully armed. There is absolutly no valid reason to prohibit HCP holders from doing the same here in Tennessee. In MI. a HCP holder can also carry OPENLY into a school. You can openly carry in MI. without any license. Its an unlicensed open carry state unlike here in TN where its licensed carry only. I believe that to be unconstitutional to require a permit to carry in public. All states, except constitutional carry states, regulate concealed carry.  MI does require registration of handguns. I am glad TN does not. What will it take to get our legislators to realize that people who legally obtain their firearms and submit to getting their state permission slip to exercise their rights are not the threat/problem? Its just easier to get law abiding people to obey stupid laws because its the law. Those dog gone criminals just wont listen or obey some stupid law so its a waste of time to go after them.  Gun control is not about guns, its about control.

What's pathetic is the agency that sells the permits is complaining about the folks with permits carrying at the capitol building.  So the highway patrol will gladly take your money for your permit but doesn't want you to use the permit to carry because they don't trust you.

The easy solution to this is just to let people with permits walk around the metal detectors at the capital.  It happens in other states so why wouldn't it work here?

I guess it was too good to be true.  I like how the house speaker is using the 'cost' of removing the signs as a reason not to make a change.  It all goes back to the fact that we need to neuter this no gun sign law.  That way there is not a cost to leaving the signs up and no other excuses.

Suppose some local contractor publicly volunteered to remove the signs free of charge?

I'm sure all the suburban ninnies and others who never go downtown, much less into the area in question are quite pleased now.

I'll volunteer!  Anyone with me?

On the news last night they said now it's on hold. They might be moving and the cost, I guess, for reproducing the new signs is something they don't want to mess with right now.

Funny how there was no issue about the cost of putting them up in the first place, eh?
