Needing a new Optic for the New Ar15 Build.. mainly 300 yard and under distance...after we decide the most popular with the Current Poll we can discuss models

 

 

all round everyday gun to use for 300 yard and under. Range , Carbine classes, Zombies, etc...

Get a Bushnell TRS.

Cheap. Effective. Takes a beating. Holds zero.

Then slap a Primary Arms 3x or 6x Mag to channel your inner operator, the PA mag is also a very affordable but solid product

Ditto on the Bushnell TRS. I've recently become a fan of Vortex. I got the Strike Eagle 1-6 x 24. It's not too expensive but has good glass and features. Definitely not top of the line but more than enough for me. What's your budget?

Sorry to throw ice water on the zeal for a Bushnell TRS25 or Primary Arms, but I'm shipping the second one back to them today.  I ordered the red dot and paid shipping.  When it got here, the scope was INOP.  I paid shipping charges back and asked that they quality check the replacement.  It got here today INOP.  (I suspect it's the same one they originally sent, or Bushnell craftsmanship is POS.).  So, after paying two shipping charges, they inform me that they would have emailed a pre-paid label.  :eek:   I'm getting my money back just as soon as PA gets it's act together.

I have two of the Bushnell's and they have been fine. One is almost 3 years old. I never thought about the magnifier, might have to order one. Saying that, I love the EOtech optics.

If no budget, Schmidt & Bender Short dot 1-8x. 1x is an true 1x and acts like a red dot as the scope is illuminated or crank it up to 8x for precision shots.

Or a quality scope with a mini red dot on a 45 degree mount

I like the concept of the new Leupold HAMR but haven't seen one in person yet.

Or use a 3 or 4x ACOG with BAC (Bindon Aiming Concept)

I looked a S&B and also looked at us optics as well.

I'm with DaveTN on this one.  If you want to go out to 300 yards and not shooting at large targets you will want an optic.  Most of the brand-name scopes will be good for that range, get one with the reticle you like and at the price point you are comfortable with.  Red dot and the like optics are not bad at a distance, as long as your eyes can I'd your target, but they are reflex sights, so close quick shots are what they were designed for.

This isn't a "what's best" question.  There are too many variables, including how good is your eyesight.  That one has probably played the biggest role for me over the years when it comes to optic selection.

If youre fed/mil then leupold should be a serious option.  for an all around rifle I would go with a quality 1x6/1x8.  you can be almost as fast with a 1x6 as you can be with a red dot and you have the ability to shoot with a better degree of accuracy on distance.

My ar with red dot is great for shooting small metal plates at relatively close range quickly. It is not good for shooting small metal plates at long range. Point is what you want to do with it dictates what goes on it. The AR is probably one of the few platforms where you almost have too many choices. Edited February 9, 2016 by gjohnsoniv

I would say the Bushnell TRS also with one caveat, they have changed something in the design. I have four.  Two older ones with the gold Bushnell on the side are very bright. The two most recent ones with the white writing on the sight are just not as bright. But it does work.

 

The most recent one I purchase for a 9MM AR last week was just not as bright as the older ones. I am swapping it out with one of the older ones and putting the new one on one of my pistols. The newer ones work in full sunlight but are just not as bright as the older ones. Over the past few days I have been inclined to call Bushnell to see if the changed something.

 

PSA is the cheapest place I have found for the TRS-25 on sale for $49.00. They are usually $80 plus everywhere else. Get a UTG riser mount for $8 off Amazon. They make three heights.

Yep. I still love Eotechs. But, my old eyes have some astigmatism. I sighted in three last weekend, and got them in pretty well for what they are. I need a scope to reach out. I CAN'T pick between the two. If I didn't have a bunch of rifles, I would at least need a couple of optics with GOOD QD mounts (like Larue) to cover the types of targets I would want to shoot.

My favorite all around optic that I have is my Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 with a green triangle. This is on a 14.5" upper. Seems super fast up close and forgiving on eye position and just enough magnification to help out to 300 yard. Plus I like the simple triangle. For strictly duty use I run a T-1 on 11.5" suppressed. I can't think of a reason why I would take a 300 yard shot on SWAT in an urban area when I have snipers as overwatch. So I would suggest a variable power for your intended application. Depending on budget I would look at the new 1-6 Accupoint or the VCOG.

They moved the LED transmitter to the 4 o'clock position instead of the 6 o'clock on older models.  I believe you can  still get the older position LEDs on the Bushnell AR Optic model TRS25s.

Sounds to me like you don't know exactly what you want to use the optic for. So, with that in mind, I suggest a good 1-4 or 1-6x. For a budget friendly option I'm a big fan of the CMR

Good points and I forgot about the 1-6 Accupoint as an option

maybe they made a decision to increase battery life over brightness since that seems to be a big issue these days?
