I am not sure this is the correct forum to ask this? If not sorry.

But my question is about advantages or disadvantages of the different ways that barrels are attached to revolvers?

I think I have seen mentioned threaded? Pinned and so on?

Would someone school me please?

Thank you.

If you see an older S&W with a pinned barrel it's still threaded into the frame. The in is just to prevent it from loosening or backing out.

I don't know of a revolver with a truly pinned barrel, but could be wrong. It's used on some rifles and usually the barrel us also a press or shrink fit.

The pinned barreled Smith and Wesson revolvers as stated above, are also threaded into the frame. The pin isn't of itsself what makes those revolvers desirable. It is an easy and fast way to determine the revolver is old enough to not have metal injection molded parts, it'll have recessed chambers, and overall just a higher quality and more attention to detail than later models.

When you read of a threaded barrel, it likely means the muzzle end has been threaded to accept a suppressor or other device.
