I wonder if people would drive like such idiots if the consequences were getting hit with one of these tanks instead of a Prius?

Sadly, I saw a crash test that showed the chevy being decimated during a crash. They were testing new cars vs old one and that volvo ate up the chevy. it was a 54 I believe.

Just don't park left side to curb!

If it takes its power from the drive shaft all one would need to do is use reverse or forward transmission gears to change directions.

I've seen a '59 Chevy vs a 2009 Chevy Malibu. Awesome to watch. Amazing advances in passenger safety in 50 years.

A lot the damage done to the new cars is actually helping the passengers. The energy is absorbed by the damage to the car and not by the passengers.

Yeah those old ones will not hold up in a crash, they just don't have the engineering.  What I was saying is that they are going to hit harder based on their weight alone.  I suck at physics but know enough to know that if a Chevy that weighs 3 tons and a Prius that weighs 1 ton are traveling at the same rate of speed the Chevy will do a lot more damage to the hipster in the Nissan Leaf that was checking his Facebook while turning left on a red.

Mass matters, but so does engineering. I'd rather take a hit from a 3-ton Chevy in a 1-ton car from today than a 3-ton car from 50 years ago. If I have to take a hit from a 3-ton Chevy, I'd rather do it in a 15-ton dump truck, but that's just me.
