Getting used to shooting

Recommended Posts

I had a horrible flinch 20 years ago caused by an ill fitting stock slapping me on the cheek and getting scoped at the same time... After all this time it still crops up once in a great while even when shooting rimfire.

Practice, use the best hearing and eye protection you can and most of all be patient!

Looking back at your first post you were concerned that there might be negative comments. The fact that there haven't been shows how great the shooting community really is. Its a shame that shooters are so often vilified in public. Hats off to TGO and its Admin/Moderators too!

Luke, shooting entails having an explosion going off mere inches from your face. It's a completely unnatural event, especially when you're causing it to happen. I've been shooting for years and I still sometimes flinch. During hunting season I was watching a deer for several minutes just waiting for him to present a good shot. I pulled the trigger and noticed the flinch to end all flinches. Luckily I had forgotten to switch off the safety, so I was able to disable the safety, calm down, and get a good, clean shot.

So don't worry about a little flinching. It happens to the best of us. And me too. ;)

You know, what's funny for me is that when I'm shooting a gun, like a Mosin, a K987 or a 1903 I don't even hear then gun.

But when the guy on the next lane is shooting his AR it sounds really loud.

Also, I re-read the original post and am not sure if he was talking about the noise from people shooting or the recoil.

Here's my attitude on recoil.  I don't shoot for a living, I do it for fun.  Therefore, I don't get calibers that recoil enough to impact my enjoyment.

my issue is feeling the other guys gun going off and so cause I'm not used to it, it makes me nervous and my hand shakes a bit

Chip Cain is an attorney and a sponsor here. He can really help you.

Have him draw you up an NFA trust. Then, go buy a suppressor. Be happy.

Worked for me! I used to think I hated AR's going off cause they are so godawful loud. Got my first can....now I KNOW I hate them. EVERYTHING needs a can on it! Lol!

^^^^^^^
Best excuse I ever heard to get a trust and a heard of cans!!!! Bravo !!!!!!!!
