Plastic Bins for Mags

I finally got moved into my new house and I am in the process of getting my work space set up the way I want. I have some heavy duty wire racks that I decided I am going to keep my gun parts on, but I'm having a little issue figuring out how I want to do my loaded mags and random parts/accessories. I was going to see if I could hear from some people that have already got a set up they like (pics would be even better!!).

I don't want to use like stackittactical or anything, I am just trying to get it laid out so I am not just standing in piles of mags and gear. At minimum I need to store about 100 pistol and 100 AR/rifle mags, I would like them separated by caliber and gun (maybe 6 or 7 platforms a piece currently) and a couple small buckets/containers for random parts.

Thanks guys.  I am going to run over to Home Depot or Lowes this afternoon and see if they have anything remotely compatible.  I'll post pics when I finish.

From boating and Boy Scouts, Rubbermaid plastic totes get my vote.

Get some desiccant for moisture present in the ambient air when you snap the lids on.

Or the generic equivalent's. Regardless of how you store your magazines they should really be in a sealed container for best results. I put up metal shelving units beside my shop benches and have enough sealable storage bins to separate and store magazines, holsters, scopes and misc. parts. A printed label showing the containers contents taped or glued onto the outermost edge of the container tells you what's inside. Its a great way to keep dust, mildew, corrosion and such off of your gear. Desiccant packs or a good shop dehumidifier are very useful.

My own opinions and experiences in this type of storage. Here goes...use ammo cans. Period.

You will spend more on plastic containers than you will on mil spec cans. You know the advantages of the cans...O-ring seals, durable stackable, etc.

Their only drawback for me is not being able to see inside them at a glance. But that's what labels are for.

I looked at containers at HD and Lowes and was very dissatisfied with them. Most don't seal well. Those that do will be 12-15 and up.

That's what I pay, tops, for ammo cans.

Go to the Nashville Flea Market and get them. There's a vet with a large booth/tent set up at the top of the hill at the main enterance on the left corner.

I've been buying from him and he's a good guy. Lots of the lgs guys buy their cans from him as well.

I use clear plastic totes. I like clear so I can see what's in there.  They're in my house, so there's no real need to keep them sealed up against moisture.  If I was really paranoid, I'd put a couple little desiccant packs in there.  If you've got kids, that's something you need to consider as well.

That's unloaded mags.  The loaded mags stay in the safe.

Sorry, I didn't see it. Hate to step on another's comments.

I didn't mean it like that! I meant it as great minds think alike.

Thanks guys. I dont want to go the ammo can route because I already have all my ammo in them and to be honest I already had to brace the shelf from the weight of all the ammo. Also I want to be able to clearly ID mags vs just ammo. I like the sealant concept, i may do a few in open for go to and seal the rest.
