Pupdate - Daisy

I feel like in a way she's kinda everyone's dog so I thought I'd update you guys. I know I told you the Monkey and I were going to keep her. When we originally got her from Reef, she was a rescue, then she blended in so well.

Flash forward two weeks and I realized that not only would she be better suited as an only dog or dog with 1 other dog. But I also realized she was going to take time for obedience school. With our huge pack, it just didn't seem fair to turn their lives upside down.

When we initially took her, I had a PM from a member here who sent me an offer of help. To say I was shocked would be true but I should know better then that. The offer was to help with Vet bills, boarding or whatever she needed. Also to adopt her if we didn't keep her. What a great person, right?

Well, Daisy has been completey vetted, spayed and given a clean bill of health. Due to a very sad incident at our home we've sorta had her there to cheer us up during a big loss. But today we're heading to Lebanon to meet up with her new owners who will give her an amazing life and focus on her. I'm VERY sad to see her go, but I'm thankful she's going to a good home who truly wants her. So she can technically still be the TGO mascot if needed. LOL

I am going to miss her, but I have a slight feeling her new owner will want to share pics and posts about her with all of us since she's so amazing. Also, wish him luck on the food front. She's a hearty eater and she never gains weight. 5 cups of dry and 2 cans of wet food a day. In two weeks she only gained .1 lb!

I'll let him reveal himself when he feels like it, but just know, this forum is a place where people truly care and help each other and animals and for that I am grateful. Thanks everyone!

She's a social butterfly. She likes anything and anyone. She's terribly smart and resilient. Which is why I know she'll be ok. With dogs, her only requirement is she be allowed to be the boss and hump heads. My poor little terrier mix who was a wee bit shorter than her was her favorite victim. LOL

I am sorry for you that it didn't work out for Daisy to become a permanent member of your pack. I am happier that you were able to place her in another loving home. Your willingness to do all that you have done for Daisy shows great compassion. Thank you again and thanks to Daisy's new pack leader as well!

I can honestly say I know beyond a shadow of a doubt she went to a good home. We're both driving home like idiots sobbing. Monkey is big and strong but he's a softie inside. She will be so well taken care of it's the only thing bringing me comfort right now. I think we were just meant to be there and step in to help. Life has a funny way about working out like that.

I am glad to hear you placed her with a good new owner since she couldn't fit in with your pack. Now as far as her eating a lot and not gaining weight. That is not unusual for Hounds. The larger hounds like Blue Ticks, Red bones and other ones are seldom fat like most folks expect dogs to be since they eat so much. It's in their metabolism not to gain weight.  To see a fat larger hound is very rare regardless of how much they are fed. I know because I use to have both breeds on our ranch and we fed them a ton of food and never had a fat one. Just a tidbit of information about hounds.....................

The girl can eat. But it just never sticks. I felt like a Jewish/Greek mother because J constantly worried about her weight. The vet looked at me, said relax, she's not like your Rotties. LOL

She's already home safe and had her breakfast. I really hope they enjoy her as much as we did. She's a quirky girl but she's also amazing and sweet.

You guys did good!!! Several times over!! God Bless you for sticking up for our companions.

Side note. Our Molly, a Border Collie/Aussie mix weighed 27-30 pounds for the first 2 years of her life. Drove my wife crazy. She was always saying Molly was just too skinny, as we could easily see and feely every rib in her chest.

Our vets told us that was completely normal for Molly. But that didn't satisfy my wife. lol

Over the last 4 years, Molly has added about 12 pounds of muscle and always weighs in at 38-39 pounds. Still can see and feel all the ribs though. lol

Vet says she's perfect for her breed and activity.

I got an email from her new dad this morning and she looked so happy and content laying on her new mom's legs. She's cute. I miss her already.

Sorry you miss her, but sounds like the little gal is in very good hands.

Her owners are great. I couldn't have done better in choosing a great home. And now apparently I've been bitten by the bug. I'm getting another foster pup this Tuesday. All I know is she's 4-5 months old. It'll be a surprise I guess. Praying to god she's not a Tasmanian Devil. LOL!
