S&W M&P frame plug

I have a S&W M&P fullsize and it doesn NOT have the external thumb safety. As most of you guys know S&W puts in a plug of a sort in place of the external thumb safety. Until just now I thought this was just a marking from the mold when they make the ploymer frames . But I just read on another forum that this little suqare shaped frame filler is detachable and has came off on one guy while he was shooting his M&P . Supposedly when it came off it got jammed up inside the rear inner workings of his M&P and made it stop shooting. 

 Like I said I thought that the M&P's that did not have the external safety just had this area filled in with polymer. But apparently this squared off portion is a plug that can come out. I looked at mine and mine must be in there pretty tight cause it wouldnt budge. Mine is fitted nice and snug and there is no gap in it at all. 

 Do any of you guys know for sure that this "plug" is removable or is this just bull crap ?

I'd not paid a lot of attention to this in all of the M&P pistol's I've handled and shot over the last few years. I knew I didn't care for the external safety but it wasn't a deal killer. So the non external safety pistol was more appealing but leave it to S&W to recognize using the same frames for both the external and non external pistols was the most cost effective approach. Retrospectivly if this is a concern a tiny trace of glue should resolve any concerns.

I would worry about solvent's reaction to said glue.

I have removed several of the plugs swapping safety models in out and for friends, adding said safety to one that didn't have Nd removing from ones that did etc. I do not see how it is possible that the plugs moved enough, without some outside forcei.e. Kitchen table smithing, to tie up one from working. They are very snug I mean cursing snug within the fire control group.

And if the plugs are not put in correctly the fcg is not going back in. Now they are just made of polymer and I can see someone "trimming" the plugs to make it easier to reinstall the fcg. I was tempted a time or two myself. I would be willing to bet that is most likely what caused the gun to tie up, I just cannot believe the oem plugs and fcg without any modifications would do that.
