Truck Gun choice need opinions: Stoeger Cougar vs SW SDVE?

Hi all. I've been looking for a truck/Jeep gun and came across a Stoeger Cougar 9MM and a S&W SDVE 9MM both at Academy for $299 so the price is right. Any opinions on which of these two you would select for the intended purpose? I do not intend to use either pistol as a concealed carry piece but as a backup only. Both feel good in the hand and I'm leaning toward the Cougar but am looking for your suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I like them both but would go SD9. It's a more simple design backed by a lifetime warranty. Also, the Smith comes with 2 mags, the Cougar with one.

There's really not a wrong choice here, though.

I like the stoeger better overall, but for a truck gun the SD9 would be better. Mainly because of the stainless slide, barrel and internals. Mags are easy to come by as well.

Either one would make a good gun. My choice would be for the cougar, might not have the lifetime warranty but will outlast 5 of the smiths.

Of the two I'd lean towards the S&W SDVE 9mm for its basic simplicity, avalability of magazines and aftermarket holsters and accessories. But in reality either would probably work and any HG inside one of my vehicles would either be on me or inside a BUG I carried in and out of the house or workplace (conditional upon locational policies).

I have had 3 of the Stoegers 2 in 9mm and one in 45ACP . Their barrels are chrome lined for longevity and they are extremely accurate and reliable. I would go with the Stoeger based on my experience. I made a thread two days ago about how Academy SPorts had them for $299 and I would have snagged one if I hadnt of just gotten a G19 last week .

The Beretta equiptment that the original Beretta Cougars were made on was shipped to Turkey and these are built just the same. You are getting a $600 pistol for half the price .
