Just ordered an MP Bodyguard revolver to help get the wife into shooting.

Anyone here have experience with this wheel gun?

I have a S&W model 15 that's treated me well, but the bodyguard is a shorter barrel and has some polymer in it.

Sorry, can't help you with the S&W Bodyguard 38 you ordered, were it a S&W J Frame I could say a lot though. Your more bold then I am though as that particular S&W isn't one I would have considered. I would recommend you do most of your wife's instruction and training with your S&W M-15 before she begins shooting the snub nosed revolver though and you'll both be the happier for it.

I bought one of those for my wife, hoping she'd carry it.  She seems to like it, but it never leaves home.

I don't know why Smith veered so far away from their traditional j frame to build those. It shares nothing with the j frame which is one of the most proven firearms in history. As far as the BG38 I don't hear anything bad about them. The laser isn't very bright though.

I remember reading some review about it and they said you'd be better buying a J-Frame and a aftermarket laser and you'd be better off. Not to mention alot cheaper to. Edited by FortKnox

I think smith did an awesome job. Grip is better than j frame, able to get solid and high grip. I like ambi cylinder release. Not a fan of the laser and wish a cheaper non laser version was available. Good choice! Edited by ohell

Ya know, I never realized the BodyGuard wasn't a J frame, thought it was just a 442 or something with laser and a different factory grip.

I'm sure they made the Bodyguard to lower production costs and keep the gun affordable.

But the blasted thing won't fit in a holster boned for a J-frame!

Thanks for all the responses. I'll let you know how the wife takes to it. If she hates it, I'll just grab an ankle holster and use it as a secondary EDC.

It isn't a bad gun. I think it would rate higher if it could use j frame holsters.

No, it's a completely different design only intended to superficially resemble the J-frame.

Fixed it for ya

Well it arrived today. Laser definitely needed some adjusting, but all in all, it's a solid piece. Looking forward to taking the wife out with it. I'll let you know what I think after firing it.
