Wolf Gold 223. Interesting write up.

I'm certain that the majority of folks here are familiar with the writings and findings of Doctor Gary K. Roberts or DocGKR generally listed on AR15 dot com.

I was reading the below links for any updates this morning, under "Rifle Ammo" ".223" regarding Barrier Blind vs Non Barrier Blind penetration and found a link to some testing on Wolf Gold .223.

I knew I liked this ammo for it's price and quality. But I am definitely pleased to find some decent data on this, so I thought I'd share it with you guys and gals.

Guess I need to pick up another K of this! :pleased:

Anyone reload the brass? Is it o.k.?

I can only pass on second hand info, but I have a very good friend that does and he likes it.

Does anybody else get this green buildup on their bolt with Wolf Gold?

I've gotten this on two different rifles. It's the only ammo that does this on me.

Not that I've paid attention to, but I just got a bunch of it. So I'll check the bolt afterwards. I know it's always shot good, with zero malfunctions so far.
I wish it didn't bother me so much seeing buildup on the tail of the bolt. I know some buildup doesn't bother a thing, but they look so damn good when they're clean

I shot some steel case Wolf, and a few days later, my birdcage flash hider had that green stuff on it. I guess I need to take my bolt out and look see about it.

What could that be? Looked like brass tarnish.

Hmm, never seen that with mine on the bolts, only black carbon like normal. I have noticed it with my muzzle devices though, never paid it much mind

That is interesting. I have a load for each of my Ar's based on TSX projectiles. I have one gun that oddly likes 62gr and for it I use the TTSX but the rest are all heavy TSX's. My sig 5.56's especially like heavier rounds.

The performance through glass was pretty interesting. I did some testing through auto glass and had better results but I was shooting into old books not gel...

I have a friend that works in a larger PD in Georgia that has done a bunch of ballistic work with the GBI. He said that for precision shots through auto glass his team was moving back to 5.56 from 308. The 5.56 did a better job when they needed to put a round in a specific place. The 308 tended to shred everything in sight after going through a windshield.

Since I'm not too worried about a precision shot through windshields I built several 308 AR's. I figure if I need to fire into a car pretty much everything inside is a threat...

I'm really hoping to get my range set up this year. If I do I will have to try some of these factory loads and see how they perform. I wish I had the patience that these guys on AR15 do when doing tests like that. I am too easily distracted...

BTW, I've been happy with Wolf Gold in training classes.
