Hello all.

 

Glad to be here!

 

Farm kid that moved out here several years ago to chase the music bug. Grew up with a lot of guns as it was a normal part of life, but my Dad didn't let us own any pistols. I'm new to those, my CCW and want to learn and represent well- that's what brought me here. 

 

Last but not least, I love to fly fish probably more than I like to shoot. Can I say that here? :-)

Honestly, I like all, but I like whichever catches fish. The fiberglass rod that's made a new trend (again) is just that, a trend. They're slower and feel like a bamboo rod, but at the fraction of the price. But, you probably already know that. It'll go away in a few years, then probably come back again. Same with the Tenkara rod. It has it's place, but it's limited to what you can do with it. 

 

I really just prefer the way rods are built now. I don't need the nostalgia of old to feel good about fishing.

 

If you decide to fly fish over traditional tackle, you're already somewhat of a purist, but not in a pretentious way. I just enjoy the challenge. So, to answer your question- yes and no!

I used to flyfish myself.  Tied more than a few.  There's nothing like not catching fish elegantly :)

 

All kidding aside, my grandfather owned a stretch of land on the Boardman River adjoining Shumky's landing on the Boardman river near Mayfield Michigan.  Their land bordered the river for about a half mile.  I've fished it many times.  Just upstream is Mayfield pond, which was the birthplace of the Adams Dy fly tied by Len Halladay, who would fish my family's stretch of the boardman often.  I hope you find some good fishing here.  The Caney Fork has a good rep.  I've been here 9 years and have never gone though.  Good luck!
