Handled one of these today at my lgs. The trigger seemed to be better on it that others have reported. I put some money down on it and will have it soon. I will report back after some trigger time.

Picked up my ruger American 9 today. Gonna shoot it asap. The trigger pull and reset feel much better that I have read them to be. This one is the pro/duty if that makes any difference .

Please let us know how it goes when you shoot it .

I will for sure. I had heard that the trigger reset was non existint on these and that the trigger has to go all the way forward . This is not the case on mine during dry fire anyway. It has to come slightly farther forward than a glock but has a more audible reset than an m&p.

Then you understand well that the nitpicky whiners about "trigger reset" are exactly that. ;)

Enjoy your excellent new Ruger. It is one of the best I've ever handled.

Ever shot a revolver?

Yes sir. I own 3 smith k frames and a Rossi model 88 and give them a workout frequently .

I think Mr. Harp is referring to the way a revolver trigger needs total and complete reset to function.

I've often thought it funny that people recommend revolvers due their 'neverfailality' when IMO they are plenty quirky in their own right.

Yes, indeed. I believe if a revolver didn't have such a terrible reset, this gent could have done much better. ;)

I don't get it, I practiced for like 2 hours dry firing, and I'm STILL not as fast as he is  Sorcery says I.

I know exactly what you mean. And the trigger reset may be as bad on this as people are reporting but where I am accustomed to wheel guns and da/sa autos it makes this trigger feel great lol.

When I read in an early Rob Leatham interview that HE never worries about reset, he lets every trigger go all the way out, regardless of platform... well, that's what helped me form my "whiners" opinion.

I realize there are those to which reset is extremely important, and I'm glad it's an issue that you can resolve to your satisfaction.

Just finished putting 100 rounds threw the pistol and I really like it. I shot a mix of Winchester white box, pmc, Corbon. Mostly 115-124 fmj but some 100 grain power ball thrown in. Function was 100 percent right out of the box . No lube other that what came from the factory. Ejection was pretty consistent . The only time it didn't land in the big pile in the bed of my Silverado it was so to a weaker round that you could hear a difference in. Accuracy is more than adequate. I don't shoot handguns nearly as much as I should lately but I will still able to get 17 round groups that were palm sized or smaller. Recoil wasn't any worse than any other full size polymer gun that I shoot. The trigger was consistent and broke cleanly . On a side note, 18 rounds will easily fit into the 17 round mags. I didn't shoot it like this but did accidentally put 18 in one without much effort. Over all very impressed so far and would recommend this pistol to anyone in the market for a high capacity polymer 9mm.

The fact that Rugers work right out of the box is a testament to their quality and design given the amount of goop they ship clogging up their innards IMO.

I will have to check one of these out next time I am at the gun shop and see if I like it enough to replace my M&P. It is doubtful, I REALLY like the S&W, but I have a soft spot for Rugers.

Thanks for the report DT!

Tricky, this is JUST my personal opinion. The M&P's never feel quite "right" in MY hand. I cannot speak for others. The new American just fits perfectly, and the trigger is much better, to ME, than any M&P I've ever felt. Now, the Performance Center triggers are the best M&P ones I've ever felt, and while they are very good, I think the Ruger beats it pretty handily.

It is also worth mentioning that I didn't have any issue with the gun shooting to the left like lots of people have reported.

That's very true. lol . I have a friend that bought a brand new ruger p89 when they were still being produce. He was convinced that the barrel must be bent because he couldn't hit anything with it even tho myself and about 6 others had shot it and it shot great. He finally admitted that it was him after he was laughed out of Ray Judges gun shop when he went in and told his gunsmith that he thought the barrel was bent . Edited by DT INC.

Makes sense, mine is a VTAC with some apex parts in it, only M&P I've ever shot besides the shield, which I also liked well right out of the box. I'm game to switch it up though, I'm only loyal to a gun until something better FOR ME comes along. I do feel like the M7P fits me pretty darn well though so it may be one of those things where I don't jive with the American  or it could be great for the both of us, have to wait and see I guess  :hat:

I have very fond memories of being in his shop as a kid with my dad. I wasn't around during his true hay day but I still have fond memories .

I only heard my dad talk about him and his shop, it was where he bought all his guns. I believe he closed up shop before I came around into guns.

The latest that I remember going in his shop was In 2005. I was a senior in highschool and I couldn't wait for Saturday's to get there just so I could go and shoot the breeze with him. He had moved his shop by the railroad tracks in Cowan at that time.
