Lay-a-way Plan

Do any gun shops do that anymore? In my earlier life would find something I couldn't live without just as my funds were short and my gun shop owner buddie always said "I can put it in the back and just pay me a little along." Started my Colt collection that way. Since I live in the sticks I've lost touch. Do shops still do that or does everyone just stick it on credit card? I think I paid my buddies electric bill for several years with my monthly payments. Anyone else ever buy on lay a way or am I just an old antique.--MP (If I'm out of touch let me have it.)

There are a few in Memphis that still do it. One of the ranges/stores charges a fee, but the other three stores I frequent will layaway for free. I'm about to have to do it for a 1911, methinks.

I think that when quality firearms that were in demand by folks left the realm of us being able to buy them outright, the gun stores did us the kindness of the layaway plan. to me, a shop that is willing to lay away a firearm for someone says 2 things. 1st it means they really care about your business, and 2. that they care that even poor people like me can own a tool to protect themselves.

I think most of them still do lay- aways..I know Joe at hero gear does...

Coal Creek in Knoxville offers layaway.

What are the terms of the layaway, how much down, how long can you layaway, minimum payment? Thanks

Just when I thought I was done buying for awhile you had to go and mention Lay-a-way!

Sorry, I know that was a problem for me in younger days. I kept something on lay-away almost continuously. Soon as something got paid off I found another I just had to have, and my pusher was very happy-----MP

There are several around this area that do. Like Sgt. Joe said Parkway Gun and Pawn, and also Krasner's Cash and Pawn, in Jackson, and Todd usually has some of the best prices around. Robertsons Trading Post in Henderson, and Woods Gun and Pawn in Lexington. Thats the ones that I've had dealings with in the past, and probably others, just haven't dealt with any others.

D&T Arms in Goodletsville does layaway and since someone asked about terms, it's 60 days with half-down. There are no fees or interest as long as it's completed within the 90 days. There is a 25% re-stocking fee for canceled layaways. It is actually a pretty popular plan for folks around here. A lot of folks have been reserving their Christmas presents this way.
