What is it?

Found this brass tag in a box of miscellaneous vintage ammunition boxes I've had stashed away for a while.  I've searched the interwebz and have not found anything like it.  I originally thought maybe a dog tag but can not find one with a slot cut like this one.  Any ideas?

I think dog tag as well.  It couldn't be company script could it?  I'm not familiar enough with Bedford County to know if there were any large companies there back then and I wouldn't peg it for a mining location.

My only guess would be a miners tag. Though it's smaller then either of my two Papaws tags, and they were only stamped with a number. Maybe an inmate tag or something?

Just a WAG, but maybe it was a key tag for a piece of municipal property. Inmate or inanimate are my two guesses.

Really narrows it down huh? :D

Bedford County Tennessee 1922 dog license tax tag. Found on e-bay

You guys are good. With a little different search criteria I came up with several hits. Hard believe that in 1922 there was a dog tax license tag.

Well, now you will have to see if Bedford county can tell you who it belonged to.
