Man. These things are ugly. I like the design feature of the upswept beavertail, but all the polygonal shapes and hard lines intersecting at random all over the thing are an aesthetic nightmare. Looks like they shoot well from that one dude's test target, though.

I look forward to hearing more about them. Edited by musicman

Everyone wants a piece of the action, Gaston!

He didn't actually say it (to my knowledge), but he probably should, but he is likely to busy with his affairs and the ex!  I honestly don't think no gun mfg on earth can touch his market.

The Smith & Wesson M&P line has dealt a significant blow to Glock; and they aren't done yet. Even Gaston would agree with that.
I hope Ruger jumps in there also. I like to see our money stay here, especially when it comes to keeping our gun manufacturers strong. Edited by DaveTN

Dave is right... Smith seems to be the greatest Glock imitator... Remember the great words of Shakespeare:...."...Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery..."... The Glock guys got it right... The rest of the semiauto pistol world knows that and it scurrying (...with the exception of S&W and Kahr... i think, at least...) to catch up...

What is wrong with the SR series?

Early model SR 9/40 pistol's had reliability issues and overall they haven't stood up as well as the Glock in the heavy use of tactical-cool firearms sports. That all of this had very little bearing on an everyday user of the product line meant nothing to some writers and bloggers. Its just one of those is what it is kind of things but overall this long time Glock user prefers the handling and feel of the SR9 to the 2nd/3rd gen Glock 17.

Now as to this new Ruger American line of pistols, they look suspiciously like a cross between the S&W Sigma and SW-99 and are probably most cost effective then the SR9/40/45. By that I mean less expensive to manufacture, if this proves to be the case only time will tell. FWIW I hope the product proves reliable and is commercially successful.

Looks like a worthy truck pistol. Anybody hear a street price?

I'm curious to hear that as well. I'm thinking this is going to be oriced higher than the SR series guns... just my guess.

For truck guns from a reliable big-name mfgr, I think it's pretty tough to beat the S&W SD series guns. Under $300 brand new. A heavy trigger is about the only criticism I can throw at it, and it's light years better than the old Sigma.

If I didn't already have a proliferation of M&Ps, I'd have SDs in all my "truck gun" spots. ;-)

Wouldnt mind having one in 45 at all.

These look like Sig and Ruger had a love child, Im not too big on aesthetics since I own the ugliest Glock in the world Im fine with near anything.

I wonder how it compares in grip circumferance to a CZ97 or Glock 21...

I really like the 1911-ish lines of the current SR45; not sure I care much for this angular beast. IMHO, they should have worked on an SR45 Compact instead of another full size .45...

EDIT: Now, IF these have the improved trigger similar to the LC9s... THAT might be worth looking at...

I believe Glocks are damn near the ugliest guns ever made. Ruger just upped the ante.

I won't own either so I guess it doesn't matter, but what designer could look at that and say "Yeah, that's about right!"

(Ok, for the Glock fanboys and girls, there are a few guns uglier than a Glock, but not many :-) ) Edited by Hozzie

Looks like they had a pile of miscelanoius Glock, M&P, H&K, Sig and some parts nobody wanted and they made a pistol with them. I own several Ruger firearms but no centerfire semi-auto pistols and looks like this will not change anytime soon.

You left out the Styer influence.
