Pards: need input! Have a chance to purchase a rifle! Question is: walnut stock or synthetic stock! Rifle with walnut is $200.00 more than synthetic! Input would be greatly appreciated!

Are you going to tote it through the woods a lot? A rifle that may get scratched and wet? Go polymer with matt finish receiver and barrel then. Just what I would do but everyone to their own. Now for pretty I like walnut.

Depends on the intended use. If it's likely to get used hard in bad weather, plastic all the way. If you want something pretty, definitely wood.

what are you going to use the rifle for?   that will tell you what type of stock to get.  these days you have many stocks.  not like it was many mango season ago, all you had was a wood stock.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ What the previous two said.  Basically your going to get every opinion under the sun given enough post.  What it comes down to is that it's your money and it will be your gun so really it's a matter of what you like and your budget.  Now if you give more exact detail on purpose and intent, your still going to get every possible opinion under the sun. My :2cents: .

Are you gonna look at it and take it to the range, OR, are you gonna put it to work?  For work in the fields and thickets, wood sucks.  Beautiful to behold when lovingly crafted, it scratches easily, susceptible to moisture, cracking and warpage.  Synthetic is impervious to moisture and elements, scratches mean little as they are nothing to look at in the first place.

Unless you are a hunter that hunts in all types of weather, go with wood!  I too am old school, all my long guns except one 22 and the ARs are wood!  With that said, I wouldn't care to have a Remington 700 in stainless and synthetic.
