Virginia to end reciprocity with 25 states

Recommended Posts

Wonder how LE is supposed to enforce between Bristol, VA and Bristol, TN.

Petition for a wall down the middle of State Street with metal detectors at the pass through portals?

Nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind

Like maybe like east and west Germany???

Just heard from a friend that works at the recently-opened Cabelas in Bristol, VA - they are not happy campers, as a significant portion of their gun business so far has been generated from TN residents, thus raising the likelihood that a lot of of those are permit holders who will now take their business back to TN locations - including the BSP located just 2 miles away just across the TN state line.  That Cabelas is already feeling a pinch with less-than-expected revenues (ie, visitors) in its first few months of opening, and anything potentially lowering that number is very worrisome for them (and, for the city of Bristol VA who mortgaged their soul to land that development.)

Like you, I am anxious to see how Bristol VA LEOs deal with it - have a friend on the force, and can't wait to hear his take.  I have heard through the grapevine that a number of SWVA VSP patrolmen are not thrilled at all at being thrust into the limelight as the agency implementing this Obamination.

And now, we have Ramsey rattling his saber...

Translation: "It's not right that you're infringing on my state's citizens' rights! What am I going to do about it? I'll tell you what I'm going to do about it! Just to show you how important Constitutional rights are to me for all people, I'm going to have my state infringe on YOUR state's citizens' rights 'cause that makes a lot of sense!"

I was thinking the same thing about the cabelas. They should be upset!

Think about this. Events like Food City Race Night, people come from all around to this event. To enjoy the attracions. How would they enforce that? The same goes for Rhythm and roots ect... the list goes on.

This is a total infringement of our rights!

They interviewed the Virginia AG on NPR today. I wish the host knew more about the subject and had asked better questions. When asked how this would be enforced, the ag said that carry permit holders would check online and see that it wasn't allowed before traveling.

So you're saying these are generally law abiding people? Yet you're not going to honor their permits?

Does anyone know what the permit requirements are for VA residents? I have some friends that moved up there and got permits several years ago, I don't remember them saying it was anything special. At the time their permits weren't photo ID or anything, just a laminated card.

Maybe this has been answered but I'm not going through this entire thread....does the Virginia AG have the power to make this decision?

Not so much. A local lawmaker named Carrico has already threatened to end McAuliffe's armed escort since he's "so scared of guns".

It may get interesting before it's over.

I see no merit in Tennessee not honoring permit holders from Virginia.  There is nothing to gain by keeping good law abiding Virginians from carrying here, they are on our side, they are our brothers, and we should welcome and encourage them to carry here.  I don't think the Virginia politicians behind this measure would give a rat's behind if Tennessee doesn't honor Virginia permits.

Actually they would be excited about the change.  Unless TN is planing to start handling out of state permits for VA residents who want to carry in the state they need to leave things they way they are.

Thanks

Not to mention, our honoring Virginia permits is a good thing for the tourism industry in the Gatlinburg area.  I know every time I spend some time in a cabin up there I take a sidearm with me.  I can imagine those making the very manageable drive for a vacation from Virginia to the Smokey Mountains would want to bring their own weapon with them to protect their family.  We should continue to allow them to do.

Exactly there would be nothing whatsoever gained by taking what amounts to retaliatory punishment against the very folks who are most like us.... And like them or not there is a lot of value derived from the tourism dollar...

I heard on the TV that this is why the AG did this: Bloomberg's "Everytown" organization gave a bunch of money to a couple of anti 2A Democrats running for re-election. They both lost the election, so as a repayment of sorts, the AG (who is a Bloomberg supporting, gun control advocate) made this decision.

It's a shame that Virginia is going this way. I live in the Tri Cities area and occasionally go to Bristol Virginia to shop. That will end as of February 1st. My suggestion is that as many people as possible notify the Virginia Chamber of Commerce that they will no longer be going to Virginia to spend their money. One strongly worded letter from the Chamber of Commerce will carry more weight with the Governor of Virginia than the opinion of every member of the Tennessee Gun Owners. I have no wish to harm financially any business in the Commonwealth of Virginia. However, I refuse to disarmed due to crossing a state line. Being a law abiding citizen my only choice then is to not visit Virginia. For any wishing to contact the Virginia Chamber of Commerce here is a link. http://www.vachamber.com/ also here is a link to the Bristol Virginia Chamber,

http://bristolchamber.org/about-us/contact_us/  . Yes, I also know Virginia is an open carry state but I prefer not to stir the pot with the folks who are afraid of guns.

+1 to all that get it that retaliatory action against the citizens of VA wouldn't accomplish anything of merit. You don't respond to douchebaggery by acting like a douchebag yourself.

Last election Mcauffie only won by 2 percentage points and those came from the counties near DC so we know there's many in Virginia who hate the man. It would be cool to have a big gun show in Bristol as close to the Virginia border as possible, advertize in Virginia on radio and flyers a special black rifle discount day for Virginia permit holders for items like mags and furniture for AR's and AK's, parts and accessories legal to buy across state lines.Call it "Black Rifles Matter Day". The anti's hate the AR's/AK's more than anything, make sure it makes the news. it's a good way to say "F" you to McAuffie and the other anti's without punishing Virginia permit holders.

Worth a try, but not so sure the Chamber will lend a receptive ear: they hate legal carry almost as much as Herr Herring  and his ilk do...
