Zeroing AK irons and red dot

Now I'm going to zero my red dot this week and am curious what I should zero it at. From the fancy computer generated charts 100 yard zero looks like my best bet. I'm just looking for some help on this because frankly I have no clue where to start.

We recommend a 50/200 zero for defensive ARs (optics and iron sights).
With a 50/200 zero, point-of-impact will never be more than 2.5 inches low or high from 0-225 yards/meters. That's pretty good for a 16" AR.

16” AR-15 with 55gr. 5.56mm M193 (approx.)

IMO, use the "Improved BSZ" if you want, but the 50/200 zero is easier and more realistic (since the "range elevation wheel" was a silly addition to the A2).

Yeah, I agree with a 50/200yd zero for an AR, but it doesn't translate at all to the AK. 5.56 and 7.62x39 have very different ballistics.

Sight it in for 100 yrds. Unlike an AR, 2" high or 2" low don't really matter. COM with a 100 yrd zero will be easily achieved at all AK ranges with a red dot.

You are correct, Sergey Gorskov said this.  I simplified and southernized the aphorism slightly as most Muricans from the south tend to do.

The battle setting (indicated by the letter P) is used in concentrated periods of combat, when time does not permit setting the sight. This setting permits destruction of targets up to 50 cm ( 20 in) in height (chest target) at ranges up to 350 m; at ranges up to 300 m, it is necessary to aim at the lower edge of the target, and at ranges greater than 300 m the rifle must be aimed at the center of the target.

In firing at a range greater than 350 m, or when it is necessary to effect more accurate fire, it is necessary to set the slide on the graduation of the sight leaf that corresponds to the range to the target.

Here is the charts for the different settings on the rear sight, if you have it sighted in properly.

On these charts, there is a "special range" cell, it lets you see POI at 10 yds for the different settings.
Note: the rear P setting is the same as the 300 m setting.

These charts are in yards, as is most shooting ranges, and I have the zero's set at the yardage equivalent to the AKM rear sight meter settings.

25 m = 27 yd
100 m = 109 yd
200 m = 218 yd
300 m = 328 yd
400 m = 437 yd
