this subject has been brought up on here a few times ((((Several deputies have been wounded in unintended discharges but no reports of suspects or bystanders suffering injuries have been recorded. In 2014, there were nineteen incidents, over a 500 percent increase from 2012))))

Sad the M&P is a nice line of guns!!!! www.policeone.com/police-products/firearms/articles/55148006-Report-LASDs-new-firearms-put-officers-public-at-risk/

"We conclude that the current training program is insufficient to overcome old habits learned on other handguns," the 52-page report states. "As a result, many deputies appear to be to undertrained for the weapon they are using."

Well Duh!

Like Moped said...big difference is weapons systems.

To their credit they admit it and it shouldn't be that difficult to initiate an adequate training program.

I do hate the use of the term(s) "accidental" and/or "unintended" discharges.... Negligent is more realistic and I'm not applying this just towards the LASD. While however "unintended" those shots are they remain negligent...you do it, the least you can do is own it... :2cents:

You pull the trigger; the gun goes bang! How much training is required to instill this fact?

Do they recruit solely from the short bus or what? :ugh:

You forget...this is the left coast we are discussing here.

I'm surprised that they are even allowed to carry firearms!  You'd think being in California and all. that the only thing a LEO would be allowed to carry is a taser!

OH NO! We can't have that. Tasers are scary and offensive. They may hurt someone and have possible side effects of their babies being born nekkid or something. And besides, they cause people to burst into spontaneous combustion. You'd think on the left coast all anyone would be issued is a diaper bag.

They mentioned "old habits" on the other firearms . GOOD LORD, what the heck would they be doing on their older guns ? Resting their fingers on the triggers ? STUPID

19 negligent discharges reported in one year? How many do you think went unreported? I know there's a bunch of LASD deputies, but at this rate, they probably shouldn't be allowed to carry a firearm.

Complete lack of discipline and safety.  If you can't handle an M&P you shouldn't be carrying firearms for a job.  That gun does not a hare-trigger in the least.

There is a misconception that all cops like guns. I have a relative that's a LEO and does; however, other LEOs he works with have said that they only carry because of a job requirement, only fire their guns during annual quals. Personally, I worked a private range and the less proficient and more careless were LEOs. Just speaking from my experiences.

I knew a Detective back in the day, that carried his revolver in his brief case. I suspect that wouldn't fly anymore. He worked fraud cases.

You don't have to be a gun nut to practice a handful of safety rules.

Las Vegas, but still, the same "safer" Berettas that LASD used to use before they went to those "scary" M&Ps.

Follow the safety rules, and the weapon doesn't matter.

Sadly, many times in LE, the real problem doesn't get fixed...the scapegoat equipment gets "fixed."  Glock NY Trigger anyone?

Good God, who gave her a gun???  I tell ya, if some mouthbreather like that gets issued a badge and "accidentally" takes a shot at me, I'm going to own that police department.  How do idiots like that get hired?
