Ruger American .22 Rifle

On the wife's suggestion, we acquired a .22 rifle today - The Ruger American Bolt-action rifle. We looked at the Ruger 10/22, but chose the bolt over the semi-auto... part of the reason for the purchase was so our kids have something to take w/ us to the plinking range when we bring our pistols to practice, and my oldest is a bit impulsive. Many times I've watched him blow through 10-rounds on the .22 pistol's, caring nary a whit for where they were landing. I'm hoping to teach a little trigger-control w/ the bolt. I also want to see how the Ruger American platform behaves. I've been contemplating a .308 version of that rifle.

And it has a threaded barrel - means I can get a suppressor for it, too.. tax-stamp here I come!

Have I mentioned lately how glad I am I married her?

Next item is a decent, affordable piece of glass!

Sounds great. Must be the varmint model or something called something like that. They also take 10/22 magazines so you can pick up 25 round Ruger BX magazines and have a lot of trigger time before reloading.

Thanks G, taking it to the range tomorrow!

They have a rimfire line up w/ 22, 22wmr, and 17hmr:

And she wants me to place another order for bulk ammo, since we can't find .22 locally. Is she a peach, or what?!?!

I have a Ruger American .22, I really like it. I run it with stock sights.  A very accurate rifle on a bench rest. I don't get it out often enough is the main problem. Using the stock 10-22 mags was a big plus for me since I have a Takedown 10-22 with red dot and Hogue Thumbhole stock. Already had a bunch of mags including the tri mag adapters, was a good fit for the collection.

Wow, what a little gem to shoot? Even my rookie-ness was able to hit 9 out of 10 times on the steel plate at 100 yds. And that miss I knew the instant the trigger let loose. That's w/ factory sights, and a cold-rainy day. Great little gun so far. Kids had a blast pinking tin-cans w/ it too. I bet w/ a nice scope you could have a tack-driver.

Thanks Jack, what kind of Suppressor is that? How hard was the process? Go to LGS, fill out forms, wait....?

I was thinking of getting one, but the tax-stamp will likely cost more than the stinking device itself?!

That is a YHM Phantom M2. It's a .30 cal, not really intended for .22 but it works great. I am going to buy a dedicated .22 suppressor that can be taken apart and cleaned as .22 is so dirty. Sealed cans can fill up with lead and become less effective over time. So I don't shoot too much .22 through it.

The process isn't hard, just have to be patient. I went through Mike @ Lawenforcementsales. He's a vendor here his shop is in Oak Ridge. He's on the hey between Kingston and Oak Ridge, very close to you. Send him a message and he'll be happy to talk to you about the process. Great guy Edited by Lumber_Jack

He works out of his garage not much to see, he has a few suppressors in stock usually, but nothing to browse per se. He does gunsmithing and NFA stuff. Give him shout.
