That Academy is probably 1/10th of a mile from my house. I was driving down the hill out of the neighborhood to the gas station and just in the distance I saw blue lights everywhere. I thought it was an accident on Kingston Pike but the people in the gas station said it was at Academy. I almost went there earlier tonight looking for 223. I immediately came home and made sure I was ready for whatever might come. I was just told there were shots fired. Didn't know if someone or multiple people were on the run or if the situation was over. Crazy that happened so close.

I was out back of my work when about 8 cop cars went hauling ass west on I 40 tonight. I wondered what happened.  Now I know.

Thought about you when I saw West Knox. Was curious if it was by your work. Glad you're ok!

The suspect then got into a vehicle, struck one deputy with his car and ran over another deputy. One of the deputies fired shots at the suspect, who died at the scene.

That sounds pretty serious.

I don't know if true or not, but one article I read said that some citizens inside the store that had guns ran to the front of the store to cover the entrance after they heard the gunfire.

Really not surprising. I'm glad the didn't charge out into the parking lot.

Kind of surprising KPD had two undercover deputies there.

My wife and I were at Walmart in Turkey Creek earlier in the afternoon.  When we came out, there were several police cars (some unmarked with blue lights flashing) surrounding a truck in the parking lot - I assume this was the shoplifting task force.  I was parked right next to the chaos, but was able to squeeze through the police cars to leave.  I wonder if this was the same shoplifting task force that was at Acacemy...I suppose it is the time of year for shoplifters.  B

I wonder if the ball was for himself or if he was going to use it as a Christmas present. The idea of stealing something to use as a Christmas present just seems like a guaranteed way of going to Hell. (shooting at and trying to run people over in a car aside)

They didn't.  KPD does not have deputies.  They were KCSD most likely picking up some overtime hours.
