"If you own a Taurus handgun, you will want to read this post. Recently, Iowa deputy sheriff Chris Carter brought suit against Brazilian firearms manufacturer Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc. for a defect in their handguns whereby the weapons could potentially fire when dropped. Those who own Taurus handguns in the following models may be able to, if they wish, receive compensation for the weapons as part of the settlement reached between Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc. and the lead plaintiff." Yes, this was settled back in the Summer.  It was discussed here http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/89723-judge-approves-claims-against-taurus/?hl=%2Btaurus+%2Blawsuit .

I bought a G2 before I was aware of the lawsuit.  Had I known about it, I probably would not have bought it and then I would have missed out on a great little subcompact 9mm. Taurus redesigned the Millennium series after all the complaints and came out with the G2.

So I can send my pistol back and get $200 bucks for it....when I paid over twice that (many years ago).  Uhhhh, NO.  That's BS.   :bs:  :bs:  :bs:  :bs:  :bs:  :bs:  :bs:  :bs:

There was also this post about it that got no replies.  http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/91538-taurus-lawsuit-info/

I checked the link from the OP (and some pages linked from there), and I am not clear on what the new news is.  There's been no recent update on the law firm's website.

http://mhhlaw.net/recent-news/

I did find an interesting article, though.  The short version is that one of the lawyers says Taurus doesn't have "a fix for the gun" and "will have to offer new gun models in exchange or the $200 cash back."  ADDED ON EDIT:  I wonder if that quote applies specifically to the PT 609 mentioned in the article or to all of the class pistols.

According to the settlement website, there are a couple of important dates.  https://www.tauruscartersettlement.com/

12/14/2015 (this Monday) - Deadline to object or request exclusion

01/20/2016 - Final Approval Hearing Date

Obviously none of the settlement information outlined means much until the judge approve it.

Yes, there have been a couple of issues, but I still have several Taurus auto loaders and have never had a problem. Yes, that may seem incredible to you, but it's true.

I did finally send a PT 111 MilPro back earlier this year, but only because I couldn't get a slide stop anywhere, and they wouldn't sell me one. And yes that is a problem with Taurus. Most of us hate not readily being able to get repair or replacement parts from them.

Anyway, the gist of the tale is that I was told because of the potential that the gun might fire with the safety on if dropped or you tried to pull the trigger with the safety on. :stunned:  I don't usually drop mine, but it could happen I guess. And I can't remember trying to fire it with safety engaged before.(I did try after this was announced. I thought the trigger was going to break. It didn't move. Then it was said that when disengaging the safety, the trigger might release and the gun fire. Couldn't cause that to happen either.)

Well, after a several month wait, I got a PT 24/7 Full Size in a Gen 2 as a replacement, since there was no getting another PT111 back.

It's ok, but I preferred the size of the 111, so I got on GB and found one at a fair price. Looks like new and has not exhibited any of the symptoms mentioned int the suit.

But to directly respond to your pricing comments...Hell No. Not shipping back an old PT 24/7 OSS DS 5" Tactical model for a projected 200 bucks when all is finished.

Just my opinions on Taurus. Many will disagree.

So does anyone know how to send a pistol back for repair or replacement? I have a 24/7 Pro DS I bought in 2008 that I don't want to trade in for $200 (or less!) but I do want it repaired or replaced by Taurus.

Contact Taurus USA to get the details. The odds are that the pistol you send in are very good will not be returned. From what I see on the TaurusArmed site, few are coming back. I do not know if the 24/7 Pro DS is still in production. I know my 24/7 Pro DS OSS Tactical is not. No way it goes to Taurus for a possible 200.

My PT111 MilPro was replaced with a 24/7 G2 full size, but that was in the works before this "safety check" was public knowledge. And my brother-in-law, working with an FFL made such a stink over the way it was handled, my pistol was "upgraded".

But I actually would have rather had my pistol back, as it was more carry friendly in size.

How many magazines did they send you?

As far as I know, whatever the manufacturer supplies with a pistol is what you will get with a replacement. In mine, and most cases, that seems to be 2 mags.

There is a G2 version of my pistol, and since it's full size anyway, I don't mind getting a new pistol if they do send one.

Honestly, if the issue was just about pulling the trigger while the safety is on, I wouldn't bother really. But the fact that the drop safety is an issue makes me want to send it back. I am not a butterfingers, but I have dropped a pistol before.

The $200 trade-in is a joke.  I think I'm gonna unload mine and bang it on the floor a few times while pulling on the trigger and see if the hammer falls.  I know I've dropped it at least once over the years and it didn't go off.
