Question about Hunter Safety Course

Recommended Posts

My son is listed as active military as he is a student at the US Naval Academy.I was planning to take him deer hunting while he is home for Christmas. Is there a military exemption for having to take this class? He is 20 and probably knows more now about the safety and care of weapons than I do. This could majorly mess up our plans.

None that I am aware of, the only training exception I know of is for CCW; a Memo signed by the Commander and he does not need the CCW course.

You might want to read this:

To me that is black and white period.

That is for the license, you still need the course:  https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/hunter-education

Requirements

Tennessee Code Annotated 70-2-108 became law in 1985 and states:

(a) Every person born on or after January 1, 1969, before hunting, shall possess, in addition to all other licenses and permits required, proof of satisfactory completion of an agency approved hunter education course…

If you were born on or after January 1, 1969 you must possess proof of successful completion of a hunter education class before hunting in Tennessee.

Those under 10 years of age do not need a Hunter Education certificate, but must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years of age, who must remain in a position to take immediate control of the hunting device.

The only exemption that would apply in this case is Landowners Exemption. If hunting on your land no problem, if not he must have passed the hunters safety class. If he does an online class and then attends a field day and depending on who is facilitating the field day he may get away with out the live fire portion.
