New to TGO

Hey all,  Tom in Williamson county here

 

with the craziness in todays world..

 

and a near death experience  

 

 

decided its time to get protection for both me and the Mrs. (Both NEWBIES)

 

researching..  pistols and carry classes and ammo.. ranges   and $$$$

 

so far thinking  Springfield XD   not sure on Mod.2, xds  ,Xd   probably need to head to armory and try them .... let her try them too

I'm gonna suggest that you don't think XD or anything else yet, and let your shooting experience guide you to the right gun. Same for the wife. I am pretty much a Glock guy now, but didn't start out that way (they didn't exist). Not even gonna suggest that you become a Glock guy. Shoot a bunch and pick out the one that's best for you. Odds are good that it will change down the road.

I agree. And be careful it can become a life long obsession. LOL And welcome to TGO.

Welcome to the group. I also have to agree with the outher members. You would never buy a new car with out test driving it first Everything Weapons is a vendor on here they have a nice indoor range and rental firearms check them out if you ever have a question just post it on the site plenty of opinions on here lol Edited by raildog

Welcome to the forum.  I am going to suggest you do what I did when I started.  Find a local range that rents handguns and try a bunch of difference ones.  I started out thinking I was going to buy a Sig Sauer in .40 cal then when I shot one I found the handle was two thin for my big old claws and that a Glock or Rugar just fit my hands perfectly.  After shooting 9m, .40 cal, and .45 I ended up using a 9m for my primary carry gun.  I also have a .45 but in the end I don't even own a .40 cal because I just didn't like shooting them at all.
