San Bernardino shooting

Mini-14s are pretty popular with a lot of LE agencies, especially out California way. They provide the same firepower as an AR, but they don't look as scary as an AR.

They used to have quite wide saturation among US LEAs, including both federal and state prison systems.

Still lots of them used here and there in Europe.

My late stepfather was a guard at the state prison in Henning. They used the Minis there and imagine they still do across the state.

I saw a picture earlier today and the officer had one hanging off her back. I was surprised to see it. Thought it would all be AR-15's

Mini is a solid choice for a variety of situations. I trust mine and would not be with out it.

Not saying it's a bad rifle. It just throws me off when I see LEO carrying one instead of an AR. With all this worry of militarization of the police I did not realize they were talking about the french militarization of our police.

Oh my. The power you hold must be intoxicatingly amazing. I could never be responsible enough. But I did the instant action!

Fortunately we rarely have to take actions like this here. The community here polices itself well enough that when someone like this comes along, they really stand out.

And, for what it's worth, the administrative realities far outweigh any perceived power. :)

They are reliable but I think there are better options. If I were a LEO I would want the best.

What would that be?  If I put an AR or a Mini-14 in front of you I bet you'd be up and shooting the Mini much faster.

I know I would.

I was just thinking about the length of the mini. I've never handled one personally (I know, what the heck) but it seems like it would be far too long for any tactical application. Collapsible stock of the AR just seems much more suited for that type work to me.

But what do you want to hit? Any Mini14 I have shot is lucky to shoot 5 moa, maybe more like 10. I'll take an AR any day personally. Edited by Hozzie

The AR-15 among others. Isn't the general consensus that the AR is more accurate than the Mini? Also, aren't magazine changes easier on AR's?

And as KKing points out, the length could present a problem when clearing rooms/buildings.
