San Bernardino shooting

I see that a lot of Catholics don't bother to learn about the history of the Catholic Church.

I'd say I know the history pretty well, I also know how much that history has been contorted and twisted to suit the many different Protestant flavors.

It's fairly popular for Protestants to try and school Catholics on their own belief, and usually it's a pointless effort to argue it. A family member of mine has worked at the Vatican as a Canon lawyer for years, and through his stories and my own learned by getting spanked with the Bible Belt, I think I've almost heard it all.

Wrong! I see that you ascribe to the dogma that the Catholic Church teaches. Whatever...

Um, no. Just you know, world history. Really, no Baptist churches back then. Not even Lutheran .. till Luther. :)

But I know you to be quite, um, innovative when it comes to that sort of thing. Sort of like Ben and the pyramids. ;)

I know, I know- "They started it!" Well that's the same thing they're saying. Who's been bombing, overthrowing, and otherwise screwing around in the Middle East for generations? Isis sounds just like the Republican Party to their followers- "Let's fight then there so we don't have to fight them here! God loves us, he's on our side, we will prevail!"

For anyone trying to justify this because of the crusades let me dispel that as hogwash.

Islam was attempting to take over the world and the crusades were in response to Islamic aggression not the other way around. Islam started it and the crusades tried to stop it. The crusades stopped almost immediately as soon as they started but jihad has not stopped once in 1,500 years. They will not stop until every one of us here are either Muslim or dead, period. And the worst part is a lot of Americans would rather live as a Muslim slave than be called a racist, islamaphobe or some other label.

Called it!

I'm not afraid of end called anything, just a fan of freedom.

Try again. Study for yourself, like I did, reading Catholic resources. Start with the 21 Ecumenical Councils and then get back to me. :)

I'm sure that you know that Protestants are split-offs from the Catholic Church who left under protest - hence the name. Protestants do not encompass all Christian denominations. Baptists, for instance, never were a part of the Catholic Church.

I am familiar with the 21 Ecumenical Councils as well as the councils disputed, but how does this prove the Catholic Church was not the first.. I'd like to see some evidence from these Catholic resources that support your claim.

Also, why is "workplace violence" still on the table as a possibility for the attack? Why are we so damned PC?

Curiously this is what I recall from School course work...all of the other stuff came when everyone started kowtowing to OPEC and then Fundamentalist Islamist and Apologist.

I do have a personal request fellows. On all of this Islam vs. Christianity vs. Catholic Church and whose Bible or Koran thumping abilities and self justification dialog ongoing here. This thread started as a commentary of a mass shooting with some good referred reports. You fellows have become preachy and borderline offensive in turning it into a religious tirade. For the love of Mike please knock it off and stop trying to rewrite what's done.

Baptists split from a church that split from the Catholic Church.. Still seems Protestant to me.

True. I've made my last post about it.

Really? Interesting, so the Old Testament has nothing to do with Christianity. That makes no sense.

I didn't say that. The old law given by Moses was given to the Israelites. The old law was to lead to the new law ie Christianity.

For the former it was a study that I did on my own in mid-1990's and I no longer have the notes. I studied the councils and documents the Catholic Church published at the time. I guess the best description would be "position" papers that are the SOP for the priests and nuns. But it's not my job to do other peoples' homework for them; it's their responsibility. I will point out that the church states that The Bible is the pure word of God but contradicts many of the things written in The Bible.

For the latter I haven't been referring to it as workplace violence.

That seems inevitable in any thread involving religious connotations.

So you're saying we deserve the jihad? Just trying to understand your point....

I'm not saying we deserve it, but we shouldn't be surprised by it. When the bulky picks on the little kid long enough, nobody should be surprised when the little kid breaks the bully's nose. Right or wrong, that's how a lot of the Middle East sees the US.

My point is "all Muslims are bad throw them out" is as ridiculous and unamerican as "we must ban all guns".

Care to expound on that?

I don't know if he can/will, but Baptist isn't really a religion but more of a statement of the belief in submersion. John's name would be more accurately translated to "John the Dunker" or John the submersionist" so to speak. Many people do not realize that Baptist do not have a head like a pope. The Southern Baptists are simply a loosely organized group that share many common beliefs, but membership is voluntary. That's why there's Southern Baptists, Free Will Baptist, Fundamental Baptist, Primitive Baptist, Westboro Baptist, etc.
