M&P guys I have a question with a picture

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a simple thing but I'm OCD just a little. I just got a new M&P Fullsize 9mm. I took it apart and noticed the rollpin was sticking out of the bottom of the slide a little and not flush. The rollpin I am speaking of is the one that holds the Extractor on. Should I take a punch and and a rubber hammer and pop it back up to where it's flush with the bottom of the slide ? I just dont want it hanging out under the slide to where it may contact some of the frames "innards" . Here is  picture of the slide upside down and you can see the rollpin sticking out some . I just havent dealt with roll pins much and didnt know if they had to punched or moved in a certain direction or not .

Some rollpins do, but if I recall correctly thisbpne is also accessible from the top of the slide and I would be more concerned woth the top of the slide being flush. Having said that, if the top is not flush, then yes I would take a punch and make it so.

ok, so I'm sitting here looking at a full size M&P slide.

If by roll pin, you mean the little round, somewhat silver colored piece to the right of the extracter, then mine sticks out like yours and is spring loaded.

My extracter looks like yours.

Above the extracter on yours there is a white piece of plastic and a little piece of metal which appear to be about the same height as the extracter.  Mine doesn 't have either of those.

No I think you are talking about the firing pin safety . It is spring-loaded. I am talking about the little hollow pin towards the bottom of the picture near the Extractor.  I have the slide next to my computer. Look at the little square shape with "SD" inside the square , it's on my computer .  The roll pin is to the left of that shape.

Looking down on top of the slide , it looks like the rollpin was just pushed in a little too deep. I may try and pop it upwards a little tomarrow.

Just stripped down my M&P9c and it looks exactly the same as yours. I've had this pistol for several years now and have had zero issues. So the pin position as it is does not affect function. I wouldn't stress about it.

Just had a chance to look at this. I have a few M&Ps, and I never noticed this on any of them, but I'm also not super detail oriented... if it still goes boom and doesn't looked like I grabbed it out a coal bucket I don't pay it much attention.

I'll look at 'em tonight and report back. Edited by musicman

Dont worry , I took my punch and rubber hammer and popped it back upwards and flush. I guess the factory had just pushed it in too deep. I always worry over stupid stuff LOL .

Word. I was gunna look anyway, but wifey had a bad day at work so we went out to eat, and I've spent the last 4 hours putting up a Christmas tree and then lights outside the house. I'm going to bed!

I got to looking at it harder after I pushed it upwards and made it flush . Even if I hadn't pushed it upwards it would not have snagged or hit anything on the frame as the slide cycled. So anyways , I was worried over nothing. Thanks for offering to look though   My little girl is sick and styaing home from school but when she goes back I'll head to the indoor range with this M&P

By the way, you're a jerk. Since I looked at mine and now know it is a little low, it's been bugging the crap out of me. I'm gonna have to take after it with a pin punch myself now.

It just took me 2 light whacks . Not to be confused with Carl on Slingblade

So I'm lying here in bed and cross this thread again... just checked the Pro in my night stand. It's nicely below flush/recessed just a bit when looking at it from both the top and underside of the slide. I bought the gun used and it's easily eaten over 3k rounds since then. I have no idea what it digested previously. I'll still check my other ones later, but I would imagine they're similar because I think I might have noticed if that pin was protruding while cleaning them, now that I see exactly what you're talking about.
