Yes first hand. My wife has one. Was her first handgun. Hers has been very reliable accurate and easy to shoot. Very well built in my opinion a good choice. My wife carried hers for about a year or so. Would highly recommend it.

Sig Mosquito has a terrible double action trigger and there is little you can do about it.  The Mosquito, at best, is a soda can plinker that can prove to be very picky ammo wise.  The only guy I know who knows how to get the Mosquito trigger decent is some dude known as Mississippi Dave on rimfirecentral.com.  I have worked on 2 Mosquitos just for the education and I will never do that again.     It is a clamshell design and whoever sold Sig that bill of goods sure pulled the wool over a company that typically produces true Tier 1 guns.  I wouldn't buy a Mosquito with other peoples' money, I consider it that bad.

 

The Ruger MK series has been out since 1949 with relatively minor changes over the decades.  The MK series is a Tier 1 pistol that when you replace the sear, trigger and extractor and install an ergonomic grip and maybe kiss the crown will give you a pistol that can win you matches against pistols costing 3 times as much or don't replace those parts and run about a million rounds through that pistol.  

 

The Sig Mosquito is not in the same class as the Ruger.  Now are there have been good Sig .22s? Sure, the Hammerli made Trailside, which I used to own, was so underrated that it is now sold for 2.5x it sold for as the Sig Trailside, now as the Hammerli Xesse.  The GSG made, Sig 1911, is a nice beer can plinker.  I had a Sig 220 Single Action Target Elite in .22lr and it was an OK pistol.

 

But if you want to spend your hard earned money on a Mosquito....

Ruger 22/45 is my vote. I was looking at the MKIII when I talked to hipower. Of course he had a 22/45 Talo Edition sitting and collecting dust. Only problem is it chews through 10 rounds in a hurry.

Can't go wrong with the Ruger Marks.
I have a SR22, S&W 22MP compact and a Smith .22A. All have been great shooters.

I have many guns but the Ruger MKII is my go-to every time when I need to carry a .22 in the field. Accurate and reliable, I don't think it can be beat for a hiking, camping or fishing back-up gun. It is the classic and will be for a long time. I wipe mine down with a Marine Sentry Guard cloth and carry it in all kinds of weather.

The Ruger MKIII 22/45 is a fine choice and one of my favorites. And when it comes to opinions about .22 pistols and rifles, I am reminded of the old E.F. Hutton commercials..."when graycrait speaks, people listen." [emoji4][emoji106]

I had the same model as the black one, and it was a great little gun. Can't go wrong with it unless you are dead set on having one in stainless.

Once you get the gun broke in and if you want to upgrade its performance you can install these parts all at once or one at a time as you can afford it.  I would do the first three together and you will be "wowed."

Update: ended up with a Ruger 22/45 Target with the 5.5" Bull Barrel. Haven't taken it to the range yet but soon. Any suggestions for an optic? Considering throwing a cheap red dot on it. Maybe one of those holographic ones but curios what other people use.

I'm old school I guess for a 38 year old. I use irons only for plinking. I do have a HKS-22b for loading magazines for my 22/45 and MKI.

I added a cheap red dot to my 22/45 lite and while its nifty and all, it added weight and bulk. While this might not be bad for a target model, this is my yard gun. I do like It though.

Mine is fully loaded ...  got an ultradot matchdot on it and converted back to a MKII internally with a Volquartsen trigger system, disabled and sealed the loaded chamber thingy.  

 

For a while I used a cheap window type red dot but they kept failing after a while.  Ive also tried various tubes and they hold up, so I recommend a tube over a window these days.   I think the majority of the electronics are made in just a couple of places no matter the brand, so like a scope, get one with a good warranty and forget about brand names etc.  Brand names and such become worth talking when going for higher end, but not really until then.  You just want something they will replace *when* the switch wears out.

I added fiber optic Firesights from Williams Gunsights to my 22/45. Got them from Amazon for $40. They are small dots but bright. They're great.

Thinking this may be something to start with. Inexpensive micro red dot. Should let me get a feel for how much it affects weight and balance.

As said GSG/Sig 1911-22. I have the Sig, same as the GSG and the GSG is below $300. Good pistol if HV ammo is used.
