There's a downside to getting a gun cabinet...

This was my Black Friday purchase. 14-gun steel cabinet from Dick's Sporting Goods. Not high-security by any means, but enough to keep young hands away from the guns. (I have a two-year-old niece who's gotten to the "very mobile" stage) Plus, it's a lot better than my "leaning in various corners" storage method.

The downside is that two rifles look awfully lonely in there. As if I needed any more encouragement to buy more guns.

$150 for the 14-gun.

They also had a 10-gun for $90, but it's a real cheapo. Instead of molde barrel rests, there's just a crappy piece of slotted foam that sticks to the sides. No way you'd have enough clearance to put a scoped rifle in it.

Sportsman's Warehouse has an 8-gun advertised for $100, but I figured I'd go ahead and get the bigger one and be optimistic.

thats great, every gun owner needs encouragement to buy more guns.

I bought a 11/22 sized safe (RSC). Depending on use of shelves it hold 11 long guns or 22 plus handguns on a top shelf. I never thought I would need to worry about using it in the 22 long gun configuration. One more long gun and I got to remove the shelves, LOL

I've got one of those 10 gun cabinets. Space is pretty tight. I've got just about enough room for my shotgun and ak with 3 pistols on the top shelf. The rest of the space is taken up by boxes of ammo, and its not much.

Anyone know where to get a BIG safe at a real good price??? Something to hold lots of guns.

Gunslinger's in Kingsport had a 50 cubic foot Liberty gunsafe for $1,999 and it was HUGE!

I thought it was a good deal, but I don't really know anything about the value of gun safes.

You get the Stack-on green meanie? :D

Yup. Had to modify it, too. I installed the barrel rests, and then went and grabbed my AR. Hmm, it's too short to reach the barrel rests. Tried extending the stock all the way- still too short.

So I debated what to do. I thought about just cutting a couple pieces of 3/4" plywood and putting them under the piece of foam that goes on the bottom... but then I'd be cheating longer guns. Ironically, my other rifle is a 7mm mag Savage 110, and it's a good foot or so longer than the AR.

Eventually, I decided to just relocate one of the side rests down about three inches to accommodate shorter rifles. A little work with the drill, and all is well now.

I do wish the top shelf was a little bigger. I've got half a mind now to go right back to Dick's and get the little pistol/ammo cabinet that screws to the top. Then I could get my ammo stash off the closet shelf.

It ain't much in the security department, but if/when my collection gets bigger, I figure I can just repurpose it into an ammo storage cabinet.

Cool thanks for the info I guess I'm going to have 5 long guns soon when I get them all but I have 3 at the moment and probably need to invest in one of these.

An interior safe room provides fast, convenient and dry access to shelter.

Each room is constructed of 3/16” steel “C” channels on 1/4” steel frames. Each plate is mounted to the 1/4” steel roof and floor frames using grade 5 bolts. The floor frame is anchored to your foundation using the Red Head Anchoring System with anchors set every 16” for maximum stability.

Over the past few years I have ended up buying what some people might say is "too many guns". Mostly long guns to deer hunt with and a few handguns. I am like a CRACK HEAD when it comes to guns.........I just can't get enough. I think I will TRY to buy a safe instead of my next couple of gun purchases, but it will be hard.

Hello, my name is Bill and I am addicted to firearms.

GOTTA FEED THE NEED!!!!:up::D:D:D:D
