1911 frame reduction ??

You can run a Officer's Model slide and barrel on a Commander frame if that's what is intresting you. But if your looking to convert a Commander frame to an Officers Model frame it's economically unfeasable. If you truly want an Officers Model frame then either trade or sell your exhisting Commander frame to obtain an Officers Model frame or purchase one outright.

I want the shorter grip length of an officer model.  I just wasn't sure if was as easy as just cutting it down and changing mainspring housing.

It can be done by cutting the grip frame, drilling for the mainspring housing pin, replacing the mainspring housing, replacing the grip panels, buying smaller magazine's, but why since officer size 1911's are available.

If it were me, I would sell the commander and buy an officer size 1911 or just keep the commander and buy an officer 1911.

I know I could BUY a CCO gun.  Isn't half the fun of a 1911 customizing it to make it your own i.e. checkering/golfballing/bobtailing/engraving/coating etc. I like the my SR1911 platform and for me the PERFECT SR1911 would be commander slide with and officer frame.  Ruger doesn't make an officer frame I'm aware of, so if a transformation would be relatively easy I would like to do it.  I have never had a bare commander and officer frame side by side for comparison to know if it is even possible.

We just built a commander bobtail at the shop.and it fits my hand well enough I am considering doing the same thing to a couple of my full size guns as well.  I have all three sizes of Colt 1911s in .45/9mm. I only have one 38 super in Government size,

You should shoot the smaller frame 1911 to see if it works for you. I have gone back to a full size pistol for most of my carry. The New detective specials ride in an ankle holsters as a backup.

If you want a short frame 1911 you should buy the smaller frame pistol. It will be much more costly to convert a full size.

Cheers,

I've cut down frames from full to officers… They don't make an officers 2011 so I've built several officers starting from the full size grip. totally possible… fwiw
