so im wanting to get a satelite radio reciver. i've started a new job where i drive out in the middle of nowhere and the van's radio don't have an antena. and even if it did have i don't think it would help. so im wanting to get a satelite radio that i can take in and out daily. ive looked at the new ones and from what i can tell i think i like the XM better. but im having a hard time telling whats what tho b/c i know they merged.

i found out today that my girlfriends dad has a sirius reciver that he no longer uses, he'll sell it to me for $50, all i'd have to go is get a new antena(he left the one he had on his car when her traded) and the service. this particular reciver already has the FM modulator built in. from what i under stand all of the new ones you have to buy something seperate for that.

so can i get xm service/programing on a sirius reciver?

any help b/c these long drive in the hills of north GA are about to drive me crazy with no entertainment.

$50 for a used receiver w/ no antenna? Pass.

Call up XM and talk them into a deal... they REALLY want new customers right now, I bet you can swing a free radio and at least a month of free service if you pay for a year up front.

Wish you were closer. I have a NIB Delphi radio, with a bag full of extra acc. I'd take $20 for. I had one in my truck, I dropped the remote control and broke it, took it back under warranty and got a new one, never took back the hook up and ant. and stuff:D THen we got a new car 'bout the same time, it's got it built in, so I never opened the new one. Hell, anybody come and get it, I'd take $15.

I don't think they are interchangeable but i could be wrong. The fm modulator that comes with them sucks there is an adapter that you can get when you install the unit it installs in the antenna slot behind the radio. That will make the sound quality better and you won't get cell phone interferance.I picked sirius because in a couple years they are going to be able to stream videos to your car threw there antenas. Also if you are mainly going to use it in your car buy one that is made for mainly car use and not a handheld device too.

They must not be wanting customers too bad, I tried to talk them into a deal when my trial was up on my 08 z71 but I could not get anything better then normal rates. I could not see paying for what XM is now I was happy with it before but now its just blah with more commercials then ever. I will just go back to the old local stations and CD's.

XM and Sirius are now one company. They have also merged the channels, so you're able to get XM channels on the Sirius radio, and vice versa. If you choose Sirius, and want to get a package that includes "the best of XM", you'll need to make sure your Sirius radio is compatible. If you do plan on going with such a package, you'll probably be better off buying an XM receiver.

I prefer the Sirius, but that's probably only because I've been a Sirius subscriber for the last 4 or 5 years and never gave much attention to the XM equipment. I also listen to more of the Howard Stern channels than anything, and those are on the Sirius side.

The last unit I ordered (few months ago), I did so online from the Sirius website. It came with the FM modulator and a card to have the unit professionally installed for free, neither of which I was expecting. The installer told me this was something new they were doing.

With the recent changes to XM and Sirius, I would suggest you call their customer service line with all your questions. Since the recent merger, they have been making some changes to their programming, and I'd hate for you to buy something, only to find out you'll need something else.

Either way, you can't go wrong with Satellite Radio. Since getting my Sirius 4 or 5 years ago, I haven't listened to 5 minutes of terrestrial radio. It sucks.
