Box fan vs Pedestal fan for moving warm air

So with winter finally moving in, I am burning my wood stove again to heat the house. Due to the design of my house, I have to use fans to move the warm air around or otherwise our bedroom would stay at 50F-55F all winter. Last year I used a box fan on the floor to move the air, but I am wondering about buying a pedestal fan this year. The logic in my head is that the pedestal fan is moving air which is 2-3ft higher off the ground, therefore moving more warm air. Obviously, the air at the ceiling (8ft) is warmer than at ground level, but is 2-3ft higher in the air over a regular box fan going to make that much difference in the air I am pushing? The fan would be also moving air  5ft of unheated tile on a slab, so I am wondering if at lower levels, the air is cooling rapidly as it goes across before entering the bedroom. Wasn't sure if may the 2-3ft might make a big difference because of that fact.

This is what we used at our cabin. http://www.plowhearth.com/mobi/corner-doorway-fan.htm?aff=6443&CAWELAID=884084635&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=530007710000051338&cadevice=m&gclid=CjwKEAiA7MWyBRDpi5TFqqmm6hMSJAD6GLeAnzjmIdDnENoNuibza3Ab9vO8xMBNLzuDbNVK5_9oPhoCnITw_wcB best link I could find. We picked ours up at HD about 5 years ago. They work great. The ones we got allowed the door to still open and close with no problem.

You can use ceiling fans to push the air back down.

We do. The stove is in a room with a 12ft ceiling which opens directly to the kitchen with a 10ft ceiling and on the other side to the living room with an 8ft ceiling. The living room is where our bedroom door is. So the problem is, while the living room is nice and warm, unless I use a fan other than the ceiling, no air really gets into the bedroom:(

Do you have a central HVAC system? If so, have you tried just running the fan w/the heat turned off?

Depending on where your return is it might work especially if it's near the wood stove.

That's my first suggestion too. If you've got central HVAC, set the fan switch to "on" and leave it on 24/7. It'll keep the air moving in the house and equalize the temp room-to-room. You'll get used to the sound. Electricity usage is minimal.

If you don't have central HVAC, running the ceiling fans in reverse can help bring the warm air down.

A pedestal fan might make a little difference in the temp of the air you feel, though any sort of moving air will feel cooler than it is.

I once took a window fan and fitted it above the door jamb that went from the living room where the stove was to the rest of the house, it worked fantastic.  I knew a guy that mounted a box fan right below his ceiling to blow it through the house.  Really the higher up you can get it the better it will work.  If there is a cosmetically viable option I'm not aware of it, I was doing that back before I was married.
