cleaning and rebluing a barrel

Never tried this before, does anyone have suggestions on kits to use?  Not looking for perfection, this is on an antique firearm, but needs to be done.

In another thread I mentioned a friend that had a rare barrel for a muzzle loader that he broke off the head of a cleaning rod in that will just not come out and he almost broke the tip off the breech plug, the threads for the cap were some strange european cut so no grease fitting exists to fit, and no adapters are made to convert it to standard to use a standard grease fitting..  Took it to Jeff at guns & leather and he said that it was just not worth trying to fix and it should be retired above the mantle.

Well, some completely accidental and dumb luck occurred today and I located a factory barrel for it in the depths of the internet while looking for something else.  Everything is in good shape, no rust inside the barrel, but some light surface rust across the outside and I would like to clean it up and reblue it a bit to surprise him around Christmas since he thinks it's a lost cause.  Any suggestions on a bluing kit would be great, I don't know anything about them.

You could rust blue it with a steam pot. It takes a while because you have to repeat the process but it's the most durable.

The best cold blue for large surfaces, like a barrel, is Brownells Oxpho Blue Crème. Make sure it is the crème as it stays on surfaces better.

Thanks, barrel came in a few days earlier than expected so there's time to actually do this.
