What rifle to carry opening morning?

If it's raining, I have an old Spanish Mauser I sporterized, but if it's not, I can't decide which rifle goes with me. If my youngest son goes with me, he'll be packing a rifle, and I might just carry a revolver.

What will you be packin'?

Probably a lunch pail since we got rained out at work today.  If I'm lucky enough to be hunting I'll have the trusty old .270.

Fifty cal Flintlock. If it's bad weather, my Remington 7400 .243 or my 7mm/08. Weather dictates.

I'm broke this week, so I'll still be using my ML. Make me feel better about spending the $36 for more than the 2 weeks of ML season anyway :)

I've got a old Spanish Mauser too, mines a .308 Win. I've killed a lot of deer with it over the years. but, this year I'm gonna use my Savage 110 .30-06 that I rebarreled . Its the first rifle I ever rebarreled and I'm anxious to break it in. Hornady 150 gr. handloads.

It won't be until midday but me, too.

If I set up to hunt the clear cuts or roads my new Remington 783 30-06 with it's new 3-9 Bushnell scope. I got it zeroed 1" high at 100 yards. It really shoots great, or has so far. If I decide to hunt the really thick stuff like I enjoy doing, I'll be using my Marlin 44 magnum with open sights.

I won't be going early either. With my leg and back issues, I'm waiting until I can see to unload my 4 wheeler. That's why I'll be hunting through the week instead of weekends. The people on my lease don't hunt the middle of the week and that way I won't be interfering with their hunting by coming in late. Most deer I've got was between 9am and 1pm anyway.

My 11 year old and I will be using a Winchester 94 carbine 30/30.  Its short, no scope, and easy/light to carry.  Just need a sling.  He is the hunter, I am just there for the memory he will retain forever!

Rem 700 in .308, because I haven't checked to see how many .270 hunting rounds I had left. I went last week to get my hunting trailer ready for the season and spent the whole day vacuuming lady bugs.

Wish there was a way to keep them out, they come back yearly.
