To be fair, it's more about "replica" guns, not just overtly "toy" guns, and only in "public spaces". And there seems to be no criminal penalty for it, and folks can apparently even get them back.

So it's not quite as onerous a reg as it might first appear.

And I must say that the closing paragraphs of that story are quite disingenuous, all the raving about personal freedom in relation to self protection, ending with the "As we all know, when seconds count, police are minutes away".

I mean, c'mon, like you want to open carry a replica firearm for self protection? Gimme a break.

The real problem with MA is that it is a "may issue" state for real handguns. I don't know how difficult it is to get one, though. And also, MA doesn't honor any other state's permit.

Since about age 8 I have own a firearm. 4.10 Shotgun and a 22 rifle. I was taught many safety issues by my parents before ever receiving either firearm. From an even younger age I was taught to have the utmost respect for Police Officers and Firemen as both of them are their to help when help is needed. To this day I still have the utmost respect for both and also respect for what a firearm is capable of doing. I passed all that on to my children and my children have all passed it on to their children and they all own guns and have not killed anyone. The most important part of this entire issue is parents doing what is right and not politicians. Taking a toy gun away from a child by a police officer may just make that child resent that officer more than respect him/her for doing what an elected official required that officer to do. And with laws like this it is no wonder why many people are turning on the police. This does not help the image of the police but instead hurts it in the eyes of children..............jmho
