Scope Mounting Input Needed

Recommended Posts

I have two guns, two scopes and need some input on how to mount them

First one:  CZ 452.  You can see in the pic below that they have a dove tail scope mount built into the receiver.  I’m going to install a Nikon 3-9x40.  The scope already has rings and mounts as you can see in the picture.  The bolts on the bottom of the scope fit into slots in the dove tail mount on the gun it came from, though there are no slots on the 452.

So, how do I mount this?  I can mount as is, though the round part of the two bolts would be the only parts touching the gun on the top of the receiver on the gun.  Is that ok?  Input?

Next, the gun is a Savage 110.  As you can see in the pics, there are two plates attached via screws that have slots for the bolts on the scope mount.

I’m putting a Hi-Lux Computer 2.5-10x44 Model M1000. As you can see in the pic, the front portion of the scope has a bar meant to go into a slot.  That bar is wider than the slot in the rail on the gun.

The instructions for the scope say that it will fit any Weaver-style base or pica tinny rail and does not require specific of slots.

What would you do with this?

The CZ is an American which means it should have a 3/8 dovetail. What you show there are weaver/picatinny bases. I would get some JP 3/8 adapters. They are Delrin and slide on the receiver and then allow you to install the rings without marring the receiver. I will get you a link shortly.

I'd buy a set of rings made for mounting on a 3/8" dovetail. 22 rings they're commonly called. That takes care of the first one.

On the Savage, I'd use standard Weaver rings to mount the scope. Assuming you'd prefer to use the rings on the scope, I'd take the mount off the rifle and file the slot wider, so that the bar will fit in the slot. Always modify the least expensive part. A new set of Weaver scope mounts should be around $5 or so if you screw it up.

You could put a Picatinny base on the Savage, but that Hi-Lux mount doesn’t look like it has a cutout for chamber clearance?

He could do that, but I don't know if you have put mounts on a CZ rimfire before, but they have to slide on and can easily scratch the nice bluing on the receiver.  I won't disagree the rings on it probably aren't the best, but they will work with the adapters I referenced.  Most serious CZ rimfire guys I know (from RFC) use the adapters with Burris Signature Zee rings.  It prevents scratches on the receiver and on the scope.

Both will work.  If it wasn't a CZ American and one of the other CZ Rimfire models, it wouldn't work, because they have 11mm dovetails.

I would get a picatinny base and then mount the HiLux on the Savage. The other should take standard rimfire rings. You will probably need a check riser for your stock on your Savage.

I would do this . I have the same scope mounted on a Springfield M1A1. DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE OUT THE MOUNT ON THE SCOPE! PM me if you want
