Unreal.  Leave it to the communist states of CA, CT & RI to impose a tax fee on the purchase of a mattress and box spring. :stunned: :screwy:

The Program will be funded through an $11 recycling fee collected from consumers when a mattress or box spring is sold beginning Dec. 30, 2015.  The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a non-profit organization established by the mattress industry that has been certified by CalRecycle to develop and administer the Program.

Businesses that do not register on www.MRCreporting.org by Dec. 30, 2015 will be unable to sell their products in California and could face other financial penalties.

Ok so the mattress companies own the organization that you have to pay a tax to that recycle your mattress parts and sell back to you.

This has to be crony capitalism rather than a socialist tax thought up by some hippie while picking arugula.   Follow the money far enough, and I'll bet you find a person, or group of people, making a cush living though this non-profit organization.
